Good one DN! I laughed at that. But seriously, just days ago another anti-gay Christianist stated that the recent volcano eruption in Iceland was God punishing the Icelanders for legalizing same-sex marriage and for electing a lesbian Prime Minister. Pat Robertson blamed the gays in New Orleans for Katrina, Jerry Falwell blamed 9/11 on the gays. How then, can they explain this? God feeling a bit fickle these days? They'll probably claim it's God's sign they aren't yet sufficiently hateful and anti-gay, and haven't raised enough money to do his good works here on earth. Check please!

First of all, this all goes to show that weather phenomena should never be used to illustrate God's will on an issue. I do believe that God speaks today, but when it comes to stuff like that "shit happens."

Second, why on earth did they think it was a good idea to build a 60 foot statue out of wood and styrofoam?!?!?

I love how they call it gender identity confusion. I am in no way, shape or form confused about my gender. Been male my entire life.

No confusion there.

Solid Rock church can see that they have wasted their time and effort and money in a useless statue. Instead of making that leap of faith, assuming a god exists, and a even cares so much about a ridiculous 60ft eyesore in North America, it would be more logical - and moral - to conclude that nobody is watching over you in the first place.

(Mind you, who says the god of the Israelites is angry in the first place - according to the fables of the Old Testament he's nuts about burnt offerings.)

This story emphasizes the moral case of non-belief: If you make the argument that a god is watching over this statue, then where was he on September 11th? Where was the magic lightning bolt over the gas chambers of Dachau, Treblinka and Auschwitz? Otherwise, is this god: lazy? inept? uncaring? sadistic?
