I love that show “What Would You Do?”

There are differences in how people react when witnessing the abuse of another. Women tend to step up and defend someone more than men.

I remember well too, what happened when casually affectionate gay couples were in the open.
People called 911, expecting them to be arrested, or at least dispersed.
But if a gay couple (or perhaps a pair of brothers with their arms around each other), is in public, it also prompts violence.

Throughout history the mere presence of women, Jews, blacks or gays…are the only people who have prompted arrests or brutality.
Name any other groups in America in which just showing up provokes such a crazy response.
Besides, these thugs ASKED if these men were gay.
Big clue that’s WHY they were assaulted.
But if he’d answered that he was a Christian minister, I highly doubt it.

I was at the park with a couple of friends yesterday. We went to the Botanical Garden. We were not the only LGBTQ people present. Things like this don’t keep us away. It’s a public park. Many of Atlanta’s LGBTQ softball and soccer teams play there. And FWIW the APD is always present.

“Really” said “The situation was terrible, but no worse than any other senseless violence committed on anyone.”.

But it is worse. In hate crimes like this not only is the victim attacked but the group he belongs to is terrorized as this is intended to be and becomes a threat of violence to the entire community.

Really? – Considering that it’s pretty much been affirmed by now that orientation is an immutable trait and happens to be (if the “are y’all gay? We ought to beat y’all for that” line didn’t tip you off) a group that is specifically targeted for violence, I would say we aren’t utterly alien from the treatment of a persecuted race.

But, of course, if this is how you consider our possible deaths (note the *gun* in the story above), I’m sure that the lynchings of the South were just senseless violences of no further importance than the tragic loss of life.

I’ll be sure to remind Harvey Milk, Matthew Shepard, and Larry King of your opinion when next I see them.

If we were similar to the African-American community our own version of Rev. Al Sharpton would have been down there speaking before a press conference well before they took these minors’ finger prints.

What do we have to do to create a similar level of outrage and urgency?

So, once again the youth of Atlanta are loose, and terrorizing the Gay Community. And what are the civil authorities doing? Does’t look likt they are doing anything. I guess I have to forward the question: Does Altlanta even acknowledge this? Or are they too backwards to even think about the rights of it’s citizens?
