I'll believe the tea partiers aren't anti-marriage when I see a randomly sampled statistically significant poll showing that. A few random quotes say nothing about what the majority of them think, its not scientific at all.

I love how people claim the tea party to be progressive and not bigoted in any way because, shocker, their leaders are smart enough not to shout "Damn queers" or "Get that kenyan out of the whitehouse!" into a reporter's microphone and yet when you actually look at who supports them...

We should not single out Muslims or Middle Easterners for airport security stops (Disagree)
63%- support tea party
46%- moderate towards tea party
31%- opposed to tea party
41%- never heard of them
43%- all voters
+17%- difference between supporters and moderates
Gay and lesbian couples should have the same legal right to marry as straight couples (Agree)
18%- support tea party
39%- moderate towards tea party
61%- opposed to tea party
37%- never heard of them
41% - all voters
‐21% - difference between supporters and moderates
Compared to the size of their group, lesbians and gays have too much political power (Agree)

Just as someone said, it is easier to fight a local battle where people would be whipped up in a frenzy over the big, bad, immoral gay monster coming to poop all over all your 3 scared marriages and the marriages of your neighbors; plus your God-given right to father children out of wedlock and have 2-3 mistresses.

It is not what they say NOW, it is how they will behave LATER.

Just because states get it wrong on one thing doesn't mean it gets them off the hook on another.

Of course they want it to be a State's Right's issue. It's much easier to amend most States' Constitutions than it is to amend the Federal Constitution.

Burr said:

So how do they feel about the Full Faith and Credit clause? The 9th and 14th Amendments?

It is currently legal in 18 States to marry your first cousin. Several states (eg, Arizona) have laws on the books which refuse to recognize as valid the marriages of first cousins performed in other states where such marriage is legal.

And yet, they will compare President Barack Obama with Hitler and Lenin

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/07/13/north-iowa-tea-party-displays-billboard-comparing-obama-to-hitler/

Let's not be confused here. Yes, they love the 10th amendment, but let's not thinik that means they are good for bear full responsibility for the degenerating political atmosphere over the past two years.

There are plenty of people who may hold positions that are good and useful, but that doesn't mean their agenda is good for the country or for LGBT people particularly. Getting back to the Hitler analogy that teabaggers love to deploy, he did build some kick-ass highways. And he did wonders for Germany's unemployment problems --- for a while.
