Either he’s more liberal on social issues than he lets on, or he’s realized conservatives have lost on the issue and so he’s compromising without making it look that way.

Or, he doesn’t actually have strong beliefs- he just recognizes which side has the advantages (with some initial bias) and those appeal to him far more than any of the substance.

I see this as a good thing…there’s a reason they call them dittoheads, my friends, and that’s because they parrot anything this guy says. Either he’s more liberal on social issues than he lets on, or he’s realized conservatives have lost on the issue and so he’s compromising without making it look that way. My dad is always listening to Rush and so I have to sit through it at times. The guy is not stupid by any stretch of the imagination. He’s actually quite brilliant and a master of right-wing spin and so if he’s saying it, his followers will likely follow suit.

My understanding of Elton’s position is that he is not “against” gay marriage, he simply thinks Civil Unions are an acceptable compromise. But when you choose to lie down with dogs, you’re getting covered with fleas. Elton’s legacy will forever be tarnished by his choice to associate with Rush. Hope the money was worth it.

This is a very cynical ploy on Limbaugh’s part. He knows that his Right-Wing have lost the issue, so he is positioning himself to amplify the remaining vestige of anti-gay positioning. Many people have forgotten that around 1989-91 he did a stage show called ‘The Rush to Excellence Tour’. During those performances (I attended the one at Arco Arena), he riled up the crowd into some of the most vicious homophobic hate I have ever seen – playing various skits about Barney Frank (‘My Boy Lolipop’) and mocking people with AIDS (‘You’ll Never Love This Way Again’). The crowd would whoop an holler with a murderous zeal at the ‘faggots’ that Limbaugh so despises. During that period, he also had an ongoing war with GLAAD, constantly saying “Flag the tape, flag the tape” and then making digs at them.

This is why Elton John’s position is so infuriating. He gives gas bags like Limbaugh carte blanche to claim that it’s OK for him to be against civil equality for gays because a gay person is also against it.

If I remember correctly Elton John used to claim he was straight, and then bisexual. Limbaugh better hold off on pointing to John. His position on just about anything seems to be a moving target.

Elton John isn’t married, but then, the U.K. doesn’t provide for same-sex marriage, so Rushbo’s point is moot. If full marriage equality was available to John, and he preferred to remain in a civil union, THEN, and only then would The Fat One’s argument be valid.

Personally, I’ve never cared for John’s music, so his opinion on ANYTHING is meaningless to me. He’s the biggest media-whore I’ve ever seen.

This isn’t a new position. Limbaugh has been stating this for years. I’m surprised this is a new revelation.

Of course he, Elton John, and Obama are still in the wrong.
