David Bahati’s Plan for Genocide

Ugandan MP David Bahati

Jeff Sharlet, author of the upcoming book C Street: The Fundamentalist Threat to American Democracy, will appear on Terry Gross’ Fresh Air today on NPR. Sharlet also has an article appearing in the September issue of Harmer’s. It’s behind a paywall, so I haven’t seen it, but NPR reveals that when Sharlet spoke with MP David Bahati, the sponsor of Uganda’s draconian Anti-Homosexuality Bill, Bahati said that his plan was to “kill every last gay person.”

Bahati said ‘If you come here, you’ll see homosexuals from Europe and America are luring our children into homosexuality by distributing cell phones and iPods and things like this,'” Sharlet recounts. “And he said, ‘And I can explain to you what I really want to do.'”

Sharlet accompanied Bahati to a restaurant, and later to his home, where Bahati told Sharlet that he wanted “to kill every last gay person.”

“It was a very chilling moment because I’m sitting there with this man who’s talking about his plans for genocide and has demonstrated over the period of my relationship with him that he’s not some back bender — he’s a real rising star in the movement,” Sharlet says. “This was something that I hadn’t understood before I went to Uganda, that this was a guy with real potential and real sway and increasingly a following in Uganda.”

I really do hope that the EU and State Department put a self professed advocate of genocide on the list denied entry into the EU and the US. Bahati could potentially kill far more people than bin Laden.

Killing, life in prison, it’s all the same to me. I’d prefer to be killed outright than spend my entire life in some squalid Ugandan prison.

I wonder how much of the opposition to this bill is based solely on the fact that it prescribes the death penalty for gay people. “Giving life in prison, well it’s their culture, but the death penalty, well, that’s going a bit too far.” Does anyone believe that countries like Germany care about gay people more than they care about (opposing) the death penalty?

Frightening.

No one offered me an ipod or cellphone to be gay. This bloodthirsty fool has too much power. I wonder if he personally would like to serve as the sole executioner of convicted gays.

Undoubtedly, it was the death penalty that got everyone’s attention. But I think it’s worth pointing out that Germany decriminalized homosexuality in 1968 (West) and 1969 (East). Germany today has Registered Partnerships for LGBT residents, roughly on par with what is available in France, but not quite at the same level as Civil Partnerships in the U.K.

Bahati’s intentions were obvious from the moment he submitted the bill. The “serial offenders” clause basically makes any sexually active gay person a target for death, and the rest of the bill reads like the Nuremberg Laws.

harm already done if only bill withdrawn in its entirety since even promotion if criminalized, leaves people at stake!

Harm already done, only if bill is withdrawn in its entirety, otherwise even criminalizing promotion leaves people at stake!that will cause mass killings: Health and policing society!

Typical of this country. Does any one remember Idi Amin and ‘his’ genocide.

What Are Little Boys Made Of?

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International.
