So, the Democrats will stick repeal of DADT in with a bill that has gobs of craptactular spending in it which they know Republicans will not want to vote for, so when the bill fails to pass they can say, "It was those damn obstructionist Republicans again!"

But, if they really wanted to repeal DADT and they had the balls to actually do what is right they would propose legislation that ONLY does one thing-repeals this ridiculous regulation. No fillers, no extra stuff tacked on, just repeal of DADT. Then if it didn't pass it would be clear who was for repeal and who wasn't. But they won't do that, because the reality is that there are plenty of Democrats that aren't that gung-ho about repealing it either.

And, as long as they have DADT and DOMA to point to and say, "We're fighting for you!" they can still garner votes and dollars from the GLBT community, but what happens when gays and lesbians are allowed to serve openly? What happens when they are no longer barred from marrying or adopting nationwide? What happens when the GLBT community gets treated like everyone else?

They won't need to keep pouring quite so much money into democratic coffers because their rights will be secured.People are a lot more willing to part with their money and their vote when they are hoping that their own self-interests will be satisfied, but once they have what they want, there is less incentive to donate and every politician knows that.

My prediction: if the bill is held up by the Republicans, it will not be over DADT (or at least not publicly) but over other spending provisions. There will be exceptions (probably McCain) but most won't discuss DADT as their reason for opposition.

To go alonwg with my previous post, the Dems are going thru this exercize before the election and BEFORE the Survey Is Completed, to gain Gay votes. They may lack zeal, but at least they are not blatantly trying to opress Gays ongoing (like the Republicans).

This is, mind you, the first go-round. It will surely be contested. I have no certainty of the outcome, but it will likely come to a stalemate because of the Religious-Right Ultra-Conservatives, and elimination of DADT will be dropped out of the bill.

This would allow the Democrats to blame the Republicans and say that they "tried". OR it COULD pass and the Republicans blame the Democrats(?) Who knows, here right before the elections anything is possible.

If I had to bet, I would say it won't pass before the elections, and both parties will be finger-pointing at the other; the Repubs at the Dems for not supporting the troops, and the dems at the Repubs for...who knows what. Sorry.

It will be re-introduced at a later time.

We need to keep up the pressure on all fronts.
