Catholics “do the work of Jesus” with anti-gay DVD

If you are Catholic and living in the area of St. Paul, Minnesota, then you probably received a DVD in the mail from your Archbishop. Some “anonymous donor” paid to take the moral authority of the church and turn it into political shilling in opposition to the rights of their neighbors and a all-too-transparent attempt to push votes in the gubernatorial election. (StarTribune)

More than 400,000 DVDs are being mailed to the homes of Minnesota Catholics on Wednesday, courtesy of Catholic bishops in the state who want to stop the campaign to legalize same-sex marriage in its tracks.

The 18-minute DVD includes an appearance from St. Paul and Minneapolis Archbishop John Nienstedt in which he says it is time for Minnesotans — not the “ruling elite” of legislators and judges — to vote on a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman.

But as the Catholics hierarchy ratchets up its efforts to impose Catholic doctrine on society by force of the ballot box, the Catholic laity seems to be increasing in its rebellion against the rigid demands of the Church. Not only can this been seen on a global scale with one Catholic country after another flouting the threats of the Church and choosing civil equality, so too can this disconnect be seen on the local level.

So it is not surprising that some lay Catholics in Minnesota see no Christ in the Church’s latest political maneuvering. But seeking to be good Christians, they have found a way to turn the Archbishop’s priorities on their ear.

Return The DVD, a group that describes itself as “Catholics who are concerned about the priorities of the leaders in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis” have called on their fellow faithful to send them the Archbishop’s DVD.

We are collecting as many DVDs as possible and will return them to Archbishop John Nienstedt with a letter asking him to make the needs of the poor and love of neighbor his highest priority.

They are also taking the opportunity to focus Catholics’ minds away from worldly political fiefdoms and towards what Jesus instructed.

2.) Make a donation to an organization doing the work of Jesus.

Make a donation directly to an organization helping to fight poverty and end homelessness in Minnesota.

If the hierarchy of the Church is still capable of feeling shame, now would be a good time.

If the hierarchy of the Church is still capable of feeling shame, now would be a good time.

If pedophile priests can’t do it, I can’t imagine ANYTHING ELSE would.

“At best, so called same-sex marriage is an untested social experiment,” he said in the video. “And at worst, it poses a dangerous risk with potentially far-reaching consequences. An exercise of caution should be in order.”

Dangerous risk? Far-reaching consequences? Of course they NEVER explain what these risks and consequences are. But that doesn’t stop them from spewing their slippery slope arguments.

“He said God intended that marriage be reserved for opposite-sex couples.”

Um… God didn’t create marriage. Man did… and he’s changed it a bunch of times since then.

“There’s no discrimination when there isn’t a basic right to something.”

The Supreme Court has already said that marriage is a basic civil right when they ruled on Loving v. Virginia. — So their argument must also be that straight people don’t have a basic right to marry, if marriage isn’t a civil right. If that’s the case, then it IS discriminatory to exclude gay couples from something that straight couples arbitrarily are granted simply on the basis of their sexual orientation.

GOD CREATED ALL OF US.
JESUS DIED FOR ALL OF US.
SO I GUESS THAT MEANS ONLY HETROSEXUALS
GO TO HEAVEN TOO? MANS RULES IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN MANS RULES AND WHEN A MAN SPEAKS TO GOD AND TELLS THE WORLD WHAT GOD SAID IS HE BEING TRUE OR JUST MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR HIM/HERSELF AND MAKING HIM/HERSELF FEEL BETTER ABOUT THIER OWN SINS AND AFTERLIFE.

TJ, god is imaginary, Jesus doesn’t exist. When you die, that’s it, there are no do-overs. Enjoy life and make the most of it, this is the only one you’ve got.

Sweet justice, TJ, all caps makes you sound terribly calm and convincing.

You ever thought about this? Jesus kept chiding the Pharisees for honoring letter and “tradition” above compassion. Now, what is the Catholic Church currently doing, mmmh?

I liked the idea of the artist who worked for the church, which was to create a sculpture out of them themed towards gay marriage.

I’m next door in Wisconsin; I’ve quit going to church because I’ve become so opposed to the ideology and behavior of the Catholic Church. The Archdiocese of St. Paul must have enough money to spend on this kind of rubbish; they must think their parish priests aren’t preaching enough intolerance from the pulpit. Milwaukee just got rated the 4th poorest city in the US; I should hope the Archdiocese here will be more focused on using Church resources to help people who need to be fed, not creating propaganda for political causes. Seems separation of church and state only works when THEY want it to.

Catholics are the ones that made me believe there IS NO GOD. I was raised catholic and am gay. Everything they say god says about gays is wrong. I know because I’m gay. Listening to all the lies made me realize it’s all made up, including god. Religion is the most hyprocritical junk on earth, it’s a sickness. It will destroy mankind.

Though I take this as yet another sign of the RCC in its death throes, I fear for my fellow Gays who will be harassed and killed during the spasms of death.

I like that fact that a local lay-organization is going to collect the DVD’s and return them with a letter that says something like: ” uh, Bishop, can we please get back to helping the poor and starving in our midst?”

Love it!

I hope this leads to insurrection from the Catholics over the direction their church is heading.

I believe the Catholic fight against gay marriage is nothing more than an attempt to claim “morality” while they transfer pedophiles to countries where
they cannot be brought to justice for child abuse. (See: Brazil and Vatican City) Two examples.

That church should be liquidated and given as restitution to the abuse survivors.

“Some “anonymous donor” paid to take the moral authority of the church…”

What moral authority?

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
