@ Cpt. Doom: Yeah, now that you mention that I remember. I'd actually considered getting a PPO against my ex-wife due to HER stalking ME. But, since the situation was similar. (We were both going to college, and she got banned from the dorm after doing a bunch of REALLY CREEPY things one day.) after her getting a visit from Public Safety alone played hell with her life I left it at that. (She was staying with someone, not on the lease, and got kicked out.)

"It makes me wonder how he got such a prestigious job. Even political cronyism doesn’t like to get too close to someone who is this bizarre."

@ Tim: I live in Michigan, the local paper had a blurb about this that I saw last night and Shirvell was Mike Cox's campaign manager previously.

You know what really wierds me out? I remember reading somewhere (I don't remember if it was here or somewhere else) that Shirvell was a graduate of Ave Maria law school (FundieCatholic, started by Tom Monoghan) I have to wonder how in the hell such a feminine dude as Shirvell made it through there without being questioned enough times to get aggravated and quit. Like I said, he seems very gay. I'd think that'd raise a lot of eyebrows in that sort of school.

My apologies in advance to anyone who takes offense to my use of the t* word. I really just like how it rolls off the tongue. If I'm out of line, I stand correctable.

Regan -- I think you've hit on something there. If he weren't such a twat, I'd feel bad for Shirvell... what could be going on for someone that they sacrifice everything they've worked for over such insipid weirdness?

A lot of the "armchair analysts" out there have said he must have an intense crush on Armstrong, manifesting as intense jealousy and anger. Armstrong is the man he wants, and the man he wants to be (out, adjust, successful).

I've seen things like that happen before. I think this particular armchair analysis is correct or close to it. And yes I support taking on further protections.

Ya know, I'm pretty skeptical of armchair analysis, but in this case I hate to say that I think y'all are right. If I were Armstrong, I'd be careful. Sometimes someone is so off kilter that it is impossible to miss and Shirvell is one odd duck.

It makes me wonder how he got such a prestigious job. Even political cronyism doesn't like to get too close to someone who is this bizarre.

I wonder if he comes across as more sane in person or if he's just gotten obviously wacky fairly recently.

Thanks for the clarification on the PPO CPT_Doom.

I get that same creepy feeling from Shirvell. It's kind of that "if I can't have you, no one can," sort of feeling. The stalking and obsession has very much the feel of a highly volatile domestic relationship (unrequieted though it may be). I spent many years in the funeral business, seen it all, and this just has that feel to it like the situation with your cousin.

The guy has lost a pretty cushy job. He could very well be disbarred. He's become a national joke. None of the usual suspects has risen to his defense. I've joked, along with others about his being hired by FRC or Focus on The Family, but the truth is he's a pretty hot potato, so his prospects, law license or not, are probably bleak now. As the money dwindles, the pressure is only going to increase.

He's going to be sitting around with nothing else to do but obsess about his situation. For someone already on the edge, that's just not a healthy thing.

B John - according to Armstrong's attorney, who was on AC 360 last night, they decided against pursuing the personal protection order (PPO) because apparently they are pretty difficult to get under MI law if one is not in a domestic violence situation. Because Shirvell had been barred from the Michigan campus and had stopped his stalking, they decided to go for disbarment instead, and both Armstrong and his attorney have filed separate disbarment complaints.

On the other hand, I really hope Armstrong does not let his guard down now. I get a really creepy vibe off of Shirvell, far weirder than his clear self-hating of his sexuality. He reminds me just a bit too much of my cousin's ex-husband, who tried to kill her on several occassions. No one knows what caused Shirvell to fixate on Armstrong, but I doubt losing his job is going to lessen the fixation.

Paul has it right. Armstrong withdrew his motion for a protective order a while back, but his attorney is doing him a grave disservice if she does not re-file that.

Whatever's wrong with Shirvell, it definitely appears he's not stable. He's constructed a comfortable world for himself which serves to protect him from his deepest darkest secrets. He's lost his job, and he may well be disbarred, so he's sitting home with lots of time on his hands as that life crumbles.

He's already shown a penchant for displacing blame by saying it was all caused by the liberal media. As things get worse for him, he'll start blaming the object is his obsession, and it won't be the obsession he blames, but the object. I'm afraid Armstrong is in some danger.
