Based on nothing? Of course not, he's a Mormon and that is what is based on.

That's good enough for him and others. As for evidence, that is not needed, not when one has faith. Faith allows for beliefs that have no evidence, or even contradict the evidence. Faith removes the necessity to think because what is important is belief and obedience.

I suppose the pile of sand needed for all these people to stick their heads in is pretty big. Shoot---! The sun rises in the west---I don't care what the report says!

Not only a Media-Whore, but a political opportunist at it's worst--He is a Jew who CONVERTED to Mormonism(!) and moved to Utah to get elected to Public office and make a name for himself.

Yes, I am oh so proud to live in his congressional district (snark!).

Don't underestimate what a sleazy opportunistic social climber Chaffetz is. He is the main reason Orrin Hatch is veering extreme right into Tea Bag country, because Chaffetz is after his Senate seat in the next election cycle.

And trust me, Chaffetz knows how to rile up the nominating delegates at the Utah Republican Convention (where 1300 people essentially decide the election outcome for the entire state), and he will use the gay community as the "godless pink peril" every chance he can get.

Mormons are admonished to “…always study and pray” about issues. Mormons get highly defensive when I point out that most of them blindly follow their Church leaders without much studying.

Like: at the time of Equal Rights Amendment, when the LDS Church opposed it, but when a newspaper asked random Mormons if they would support an amendment with the wording: “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex”. And more than 2/3rds of them responded: YES.

Like: The abject robotic response to “The Letter” that was read in all California Mormon chapels about Proposition 8. Some Mormons mortgaged their homes to pay for the campaign. Certain Mormon Bishops went personally to each member to ask for donations. There was a secret assembly of wealthy Mormons to ask for assistance in the Prop 8 campaign. (Since little or no tithing was supposedly not to be used for this political issue.)

Now: I get to point to this example by my Representative in Washington D.C. (sheesh!)

Chaffetz is a media-whore.

Considering that all that possibly remains of the DADT "debate" is prejudice (http://www.palmcenter.org/press/dadt/releases/military-civilianprofessorsdadtdebateover), it'll be almost funny to see the inevitable period where hardcore anti-gay stand their ground and cry wolf. This'll be an interesting time period for the history books, akin to the post-segregation (though we're not quite there yet!) period in the South.

Proving yet again, that for many people, "don't let the facts get in the way of beliefs" is not just a pretty slogan, it's a way of life.
