@mikebola, it's my understanding that any amendment the republicans might add will get voted on individually. I think I'm right on that. If not, then of course McCain or McConnell or someone else will poison the whole thing quite quickly and effortlessly. As for the tax bill, the Democrats have already lost that battle. They'll vote for the "compromise" because they're weak and spineless. But if that vote takes place on Saturday, DADT repeal could easily take place on Thursday. It could actually happen. I can't believe it's actually possible. Let's hope Brown, Collins, and Murkowski buck their party's anti-gay values and do what they say they're going to do before Reid offers them his first born.

This agreement drives one more stake in the passage of DADT.

the problem is in the timing of doing DADT behind the tax bill, which is an affront to the nation.

Assuming that the dems find some balls, the Tax bill will not pass, which makes it a sure bet Collins will not let DADT pass cloture.

The opposite is also true, assuming the dems remain their typical ball-less wonder behavior and let the Tax Bill pass, Collins has twisted his aging nutsack into giving a minimum doubling of debate time (read as at least 4 days, probably more) and they get to vote on any amendment they want in their 10 amendments. The dems get 5 amendments.

I will bet you dollars to donuts that they will be throwing every poison pill amendment they can think up to force the dems to vote against the NDAA bill and to cause fury in debate and possible filibuster of their amendments.

McCain will be leading this attack, and I would not be surprised if they tried to attach a bill the made the Billionaire Bailout Tax Cuts permanent or to kill the Dream Act or prevent an ENDA bill from ever being able to be brought to the floor.

I have cued up a funeral dirge on my Ipod and am ready to begin mourning the massacre of the middle classes of America.

Shhhh.... don't tell anyone, but I'm starting to feel optimistic. This delay is the best news we've gotten all day today.
