Although probably mentioned elsewhere by someone, I wanted to note here that I’ve been really pleased at the leadership role and the work done by Sen. Lieberman. He’s received a lot of flak from progressives in the past – on this issue, he truly is leading with conviction. If repeal of DADT is accomplished in this lame duck session, much of the credit will be due to him.

Lincoln has said many times that she favors repeal of DADT (even without the study being complete).

I also hope that if the repeal fails, the 9th Circut will grant the Log Cabin request of speeding the trial up to April.

Okay, that’s good news. That means it’s all down to Brown and Murkowski. Personally, I don’t believe them, but I’d love to be proven wrong. And so would my best friend and my cousin, incidentally, both of whom are currently in the Navy and in the closet.

Ryan, Rachel Maddow (on her show) said that Sen. Lincoln would have voted “yes” for cloture, but she was at the dentist when Sen. Reid suddenly called for the vote today. Even Sen. Collins had to be pulled out of a meeting because of the surprise vote. Remember, Lincoln is gone come January, so she could possibly be persuaded to vote yes on a stand-alone bill.

Okay, this is perfect. Now we’ll know for certain if these “moderate” Republicans like Brown and Murkowski actually do intend to vote for repeal, or if they were just playing games with Reid and running out the clock as I suspect. Obviously, if Collins is working with Lieberman on this then she’s sincere. But with Lincon abstaining and Manchin voting no (and then weirdly apologizing for it and grossly lying and saying he believes it will he repealed soon) there needs to be four GOP votes. Only three have publicly supported repeal and two may be lying. Where’s the fourth? I guess we’ll know next week. One thing is for certain: with a stand alone vote, no one will be able to blame Reid and pretend the GOP are blameless if it fails.

Oh, and if you were watching the Senate floor on C-span during the vote for cloture, Sen. Lieberman was walking all over the floor talking to Sen. Collins and Sen. Murkowski. What did Sen. Reid do? He went over to a conservative republican and started smiling and joking. Hardly a serious senator looking to persuade his colleagues to vote “yes” on the cloture vote. But I bet Sen. Lieberman was busy on the senate floor trying to get the votes necessary somehow to repeal DADT….

Sen. Lieberman and Sen. Collins seem to be the only politicians acting as leaders on this issue in the whole of Washington, D.C. They’re on the side of justice and equality, NOT Obama or Reid. Here’s hoping that the repeal for DADT as a stand-alone bill passes. Reid is a jerk! I wonder if it is because of his Mormon religion that he keeps screwing gay people over?

ALL of our “fierce advocates” who planned for this to all come down in December, AFTER the midterms and during a lame duck session, knew EXACTLY what they were doing.

They are getting exactly the result that they planned for.

Sink DADT repeal and be able to say “Well, we tried!”. Win/Win as far as they’re concerned. Unless we make it very clear to the Republican AND Democratic Parties that this strategy will be a LOSE/LOSE we will never be taken seriously as a constituency.
