I’m taking bets on today. Timothy will find some WiFi connection to get some sort of a fix.

Here's a fun link to Zach Weiner having fun with NOM. Actually, if you just Google "NOM vs SMBC" you'll get a lot of sites covering the story.

St Lucia is really bad. They voted with Iran and Syria at the UN to ignore human rights abuses of gays. And that was on the second vote, when all the other Carribean nations were shamed into voting for LGBT inclusion in human rights documents. Here's a recent article on the gay environment in St Lucia.

In general, the islands with the best legal protections and rights for LGBTs are those that belong to one of four outside countries - the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Saba, Sint Eustatius, Bonaire, St. Barts, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Martinique have the strongest LGBT rights laws - they're subject to full Dutch (first three) or French (latter four) law, and are also subject to all EU law and ECHR rulings. All have recognition of gay relationships and full discrimination protections. Dutch law is generally stronger on LGBT rights than French law.

Many more are subject to ECHR or SCOTUS rulings which provide far more limited rights but do prevent homosexuality from being banned. These are Aruba, Curacao, Sint Maarten, Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Caymans, Montserrat, Turks & Caicos, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Homosexuality is legal in four other countries (Haiti, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Bahamas) and in the remainder there are bans on either male homosexuality only (Jamaica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis) or on all homosexuality (Trinidad & Tobago, etc.).

Actually, this provides a great opportunity to discuss gay-friendly islands (are there any?). I am specifically interested in where in the Caribbean my husband and I can take our two young children . I've heard that St. Lucia is fantastic, but not sure of the climate there as it relates to attitudes towards gay families. Any suggestions?
