just an add – if i made a lot of comments that seemed to offend people, rather than saying that they “aren’t getting it” i’d be concerned enough about my image as someone who is callous or insensitive to change my behavior.

spartann, could you explain this to me:

rush says something that sounds pretty insensitive to me but he’s “just joking” and i “fell for it?”

what is this, you can say something and no matter how offensive it seems, as long as you come back later and say “i was making a joke!” it’s okay?

i think that behind what people joke about is what they really are – saying “Just joking” is a way to get around having to take responsibility for saying something obnoxious.

if a person intends to be funny and they come off as offensive, i don’t give them any benefit for the intent.

By the way, the death of thousands of people is the *perfect* place for humor. When things are so bad that they’re unimaginable, and when there’s little you can do (unless someone here has the cure for a runaway radioactive plant), the only thing left is to laugh while you can, where you can. Then you get back to the work of picking up the pieces.

Quick question: how many of the “outraged” people here have donated to the Japanese charities? Hmmm…

Let me start by saying: I’m no Rush fan, not by a long shot. I find his humor usually pretty tasteless and often a little hateful. But seriously, what is this doing here???

First of all, why is this on a gay-news-related site? I didn’t realize this had become a broader liberal politics site. Are we now shilling for Dems and the left?

You do realize that the “gaya” he was referring to was Gaia as in “mother earth”. You do realize that, right?

Secondly, he’s mocking Diane Sawyer and he’s mocking environmentalists, not the Japanese. His point on DS was: these people are screwed and her reaction is “look! recycling!”. I’m sorry, but frankly, her comment is completely insipid. He’s right to criticize her for it. I’ve long complained about the fluff that passes for network news. This is a perfect example.

And his comments about the home of environmental cars being in the “crosshairs” are facetious. As in “you save mother earth and she levels you in payback”. Kids, that’s called irony. It’s used in humor. Maybe bad humor in bad taste. Maybe unfunny humor. But the level of outrage here is ridiculous. Get a grip people.

Spartann, you are so right. Rush is a genius who has outsmarted me as I thought he was serious about his comments. He’s actually a wonderful individual who seeks better opportunities for gunnuts and rich people. You must be an outstanding member of one of those extremely intelligent subgroups… (or a member of GOProud, another bastion of logical distinction)

One thing I did wonder about, when I used to listen: when I first heard the show in 1992 or 3, he was always going on about his audience of “20 million and growing.” The last time I heard him on the radio, somewhere around 2000, he was still bragging about his audience growing by leaps and bounds… and the number he gave was still 20 million.

But until now I had no idea the “golden microphone” was a real thing. He’s nuts.

Limbaugh constantly makes known, a discerning individual knows his schtick is just that, “mostly satire”… The real laugh however, comes at the expense of people like yourself Mr Jazz, every time you fall into the trap Limbaugh’s set for you…….. I guess some people are just inclined to take the BIG guy literally…. But that’s OK, you needn’t fret, and please don’t take what I said to heart… because ever since Keith Olbermann’s show met a Tsunmai of its own, Chris Matthews and that Fat Ed guy over at MSNBC are 2 of the biggest suckers on TV taking the bait now… and I mean hook line and sinker!!!!!

Actually I think Spartann is correct on this one. Limbaugh wasn’t seeing God’s judgment here, rather he was doing what makes up about 40% of his shtick, attacking Democrats and “librulls” (the rest is about evenly divided between ranting about Obama and praising himself).

The attack wasn’t on Japan’s policies, but rather on what librulls believe about zero emissions vehicles and recycling.

It’s amusing in a way. All it takes for Rush to be condescending and condemnatory of an issue is for a librull to adopt it. It’s hard to come up with logical opposition to recycling – especially one that is consistently conservative – but that it’s librull is enough. And if it wasn’t a partisan issue (and can anyone explain why it is?), Rush would be praising the big businesses that were being true conservators of our planet that obviously the Democrats don’t care about.

Rush has no underlying principles or ideology, he’s purely reactionary.

I would venture that his definition of wasting time doesn’t include listening to his misinformed commentary programs? (or the president wasting time paying attention to hateful people such as Rush?)
