The UK has had civil partnerships for 6 years and are beginning the process of legalizing gay marriage, which will happen in 2 or 3 years. No straight politician is going to be willing to spend political capital on nomenclature afterwards. You might as well wave at Britain and see how long they've gone without marriage thanks to civil partnerships. Worst part? These goddamned Democrats will pass it off as some major victory instead of the big-time screwover they forced on us with a good measure of Vaseline.
