Um, New Hampshire got gay marriage only 2 years after civil unions, and Connecticut was 3.

The UK has had civil partnerships for 6 years and are beginning the process of legalizing gay marriage, which will happen in 2 or 3 years.

When those civil unions pass, don't expect to get marriage before a decade or more unless the Prop 8 case gets a broad ruling by SCOTUS.

No straight politician is going to be willing to spend political capital on nomenclature afterwards.

You might as well wave at Britain and see how long they've gone without marriage thanks to civil partnerships.

Worst part? These goddamned Democrats will pass it off as some major victory instead of the big-time screwover they forced on us with a good measure of Vaseline.

Civil unions? It's not the same. It's like, we keep what we got and give them something else to shut them up. I don't like Civil unions.
