How did Rep. West and his friends not get the message: That sort of Society went down the tubes a long time ago. Like the golden age of happy life on the ole plantation that suddenly appeared in the rearview mirror in 1866, that sort of society is best experienced in historical fiction, and not the sort Gore Vidal writes. I for one suspect that that is the point; that by getting up a lather about the differences between the present and a made-up past, some folks avoid dealing with the lives they are actually living. It is especially handy when these tragic losses can be held to be, at least primarily, somebody else's fault.

Not to mention this:

"Because marriage is a union and a bond between a man and a woman to do one single thing: the furtherance of society by procreation, through creating new life."

Exactly WHO is it that is trying to change the definition of marriage? No law says this anywhere in the country. The catholic vows include children "if god so wills". What custom of marriage says this? none. For some people it is an expectation, but nowhere is it required legally, culturally, socially,
or in religious belief and practice. If anything, this line of "reasoning" proves that this is not about changing the definiiton of marriage for heterosexuals, but about expanding access to include gay people.

and true to form, this is just one more example oif heterosexuals behaving VERY badly, and then blaming us for the difficulties and the problems.

I've been getting the emails from NOM, full of Brian Brown's boasts and hyperbole. But he and Diaz have been engaging in something else, typical of this movement: saying that they've been receiving death threats and duly reporting it to the police and FBI.

My friends, BB is hardly reserved in exposing what he thinks are the lies, or threats, or repression gay people are capable of. After all, he posted a video of a young man shouting at him in anger, and used it as proof that gay people are to be feared.

Soooo....
In our world of instant video messaging, easily traceable information and the ability to post just about anything online and linkage to it's origins: why isn't Brian Brown posting such threats online for all the world to see?
After all, if he wants to show that his life and that of his supporters are being threatened, I don't see why he can't SHOW and PROVE it. Right?

One can SAY you've lodged a report to law enforcers, but it's a crime to make a FALSE one.
So, I'm thinking that BB and Diaz haven't done any such thing. Nor did they have evidence for the local authorities to work with or that there was evidence such threats came from gay people at all.

It's enough for BB to just SAY it's happened, and his supporters will believe him. And UNQUESTIONINGLY.
And that is what is so very disturbing about BB.
Our side however, has hard evidence of what his sort of rhetoric will do.
The properties of gay couples across the country being burned down after anti gay conflicts with neighbors.
Children being assaulted by their peers in school.
The suicides that result, or the execution style murders of kids such as Lawrence King, after weeks of suffering anti gay bullying.
Or the careers of various gay people, especially soldiers, being lost to third party outing.

So, it's worth investigating just HOW and in what way, BB is actually threatened?
Because his crying wolf, his hyperbolic rhetoric that being challenged is 'threatening', or that gay people are such a terrorizing presence, his rallies have low attendance out of fear: he deserves to be outed for the lying coward that he is.
Real people are getting harmed out there because of such rhetoric.
And it's NOT BB or anyone who shares his views.

blow job parties-- because, as that either great southern icon of heterosexual morality stated, blow jobs aren't sex, and it all depends on whatthe meaning of "is" is.

As long as there are about two dozen people in a particular location, you're going to have a society. That's just the way it is, and all of the right's blustering about then end of civilization is just so much gas.

After all, when you strip it down to basics, that's what people do: we make societies, some better, some worse. Rep. West obviously wants to continue the worst aspects of the present one.

And since when did people start needing a license to make babies?

Gee, Mr. West... did you know that white folk said the exact same thing almost 45 years ago justifying the bans on interracial marriage?

Or are you like most conservative blacks and are deluded into thinking lynching a black different that say beating a gay man to death with an axe handle and throwing his body on a pile of burning tires?

Yeah, Timothy. I'd like a little more info on the Texas BJ parties myself. No gay men present? Those must be some pretty piss poor blow jobs then. Is it just the women doing the guys (a horrible fate for the guys), or are the men getting a little suction experience themselves?

I don't think it's fair to be attacking this man. After all, he is often forced to make statements while his family's one working brain cell is on loan to one of his siblings or the odd cousin. As a result, the words coming out of his mouth are generally divorced from life as we know it on this planet.

It would help, I suppose, if he were to actually use the working brain cell when it's his turn to have it, but that may be too much to ask of a man who earnestly believes he has a higher security clearance than the president.
