Or call homosexuality a social taboo, but not a sin. Pat Robertson no longer calls it a sin, after being corrected online in an article “Christian Pastors Preach Untruths” (see biblelore.com).

There are so many things that easily blow the ex gay ‘what causes homosexuality’ template.

First of all, that the siblings that share the same parents and household aren’t also gay.
That those gay people who have nothing in common with the template are gay anyway.

That even in homes where statistically there are no fathers, such as among black female led homes, there isn’t a commiserate surge of homosexuality among black men.

And the intellectually dishonest fact that heteros suffer from relationship problems and substance abuse and other pathologies, obviously means that one’s sexual orientation has nothing to do with those things.

I’m frustrated most of all at how backwards they’ve gotten the facts.
That it’s not rejection by fathers that causes homosexuality, but that homosexuality in a son, in particular, causes rejection. And sometimes outright physical and mental abuse as well.

That the anti gay will agree and assert that some kind of abuse took place to cause homosexuality, but won’t agree that discrimination, isolation and bigotry is abusive and can cause pathologies.

The hard part, is getting into a forum where all of their bull can be confronted. They tend to avoid any confrontation that will blow their cover.
I hate it that gay people aren’t given the credibility they have and deserve.
But I’ve noticed that us allies who can blow holes in everything are avoided even more.
They can’t claim we’re in the throes of our ‘sickness’, nor can they (although they try) say we’re ‘infected’ by it.
There is a lot of cowardice in front the whole issue. And we can call them out on that too.

I have one brother who turned out straight as an arrow, and I do not know a single gay person, male or female, that had the terrible childhood that the reparative therapy community insists we all share. Most of us were quite ordinary as kids.

“It just so happens they were here today,” Mullen said of the Bachmanns. “And we were teaching on both marriage and homosexuality.”

The Bachmann campaign released this statement on Mullen’s sermon: “Michele was an invited guest, she always welcomes the opportunity to meet with parishioners.”

Ooops… not the same story

All of that is necessary as part of the reparative therapy theory. He fell into homosexual temptation, you see, because he didn’t bond with his father or have appropriate role models. After a few ex-gays, it gets repetitive, even if they have to stretch to fit the mold.

If this is a story of ex-gay conversion, why does he spend more time opening with his mother’s near-abortion procedure, his broken childhood, and his drug abuse leading up to his “finding Jesus”?

All of that has nothing to do with whether he was gay or not. Seems like it was just calculated to reinforce the anti-gay image of gays being broken, sick, abusive, and liberally hedonistic. Meh.
