Titles of State are traditionally an honor granted for life. When addressed by the news, by state functions or in society gatherings, it’s always President Carter, Sen. Dole, Gov. Perdue. In interviews they sometimes are address solely by the title:

“Mr. President, when you were in office you said….” or “Thank you for being with us today, Senator.”

When describing a politician, however, you note their status.

Thus, you would address him as “Sen. Santorum”, but write about him as “the former senator from Pennsylvania” or:

“Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum started his campaign speech …”

Yes, marriage is what marriage is. A union between two people. So why not let let all people into that club? Why restrict entry based on gender and sexuality?

Also, does it seem that Rick is getting frustrated by the pressure?

One last thing: I wish people would use the accurate label of EX-SENATOR instead of referring to him as Penn. Sen. blah blah blah. He was voted out in 2006.

Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC destroyed the napkin/paper towel analogy last night, including a refusal to allow Santorum to limit O’Donnell’s ability to use a paper towel as a napkin and vice versa.

This smells like Rick is subconsciously seeking the best method for cleaning up santorum*: Should you use a napkin or a paper towel, and should it be moistened with water or beer? Personally, I think with any of those combinations he would just be spreading santorum around over a wider area. But the solution is really simple: Just spray some Pro-Gay on the mess, and watch it all go away.

*(I still loath Dan Savage’s definition of santorum, but it’s not going away any time soon, so I may as well join the fun.)
