I think I recall seeing that sign. I didn't give it that much thought at the time, but now I kind of wonder "Why the hell would they need a visitor's center in the first place??" Who would want to visit a place like that?? It has all the charm of an industrial park or a large "Ready care" medical facility from what little I've seen of it.

As a Colorado resident, I have always been amazed at the official state highway sign on Interstate 25 designating the turn off for the Focus on the Family Visitors Center. One doesn't see simlar signs marking exits leading to a Catholic church, a Methodist church, a synagogue, or other faith based organizations. What is it about FOTF that makes it different from other religious entities such that FOTF is entitled to state funding for a road sign? The reality of the matter is that Colorado Springs is dominated by the religious right. In years past FOTF was seen as an organization that was essential to the survival of this right wing city. I hope the exorbitant amount of money that FOTF spent on building their temple leads to bankruptcy.

It seems to be doing so.

What has Focus on the Family ever done for anyone other than itself or its political allies??

Nothing, as far as I know. With all that money, they do nothing real. What a waste.

I was reading the current People magazine's Heroes section about a woman who financially helps people to adopt children. She herself not only struggled with failed IVF attempts, but the expense of IVF AND adopting created a major financial burden for her and her husband. It occurred to them that OTHER people with less means as they, would need a monetary boost to give a child a home.

The parents profiled included a gay couple and a single parent.

Note how little that NOM and FRC and FOTF do that. There is virtually NO direct financial or other kinds of vital support for potential parents or families at risk of destabilizing because of the economic downturn which of course can have the domino effect of divorce, domestic violence or substance abuse.
Apparently a LOT of expense has gone into keeping committed and responsible gay parents from protecting THEIR children through marriage.

The more I hear about the financial issues going on with FOTF, the more I cheer the fact that it's obvious to smarter people that they don't do shit for anyone that REALLY needs help.
Yet, you'll note also how they are constantly patting themselves on the back as if they've accomplished anything important to the real world.

One wonders what they will do with the 90 to 95 million or so they will have to spend this year? That figure still exceeds the combined budgets of all major national LGBT advocacy organizations.

I wonder when they're going to put the property up for sale?

Because they've fallen by over 1/2 in 9 years. They won't last much longer.
