My husband is the same age as this guy and also a WWII veteran of the Air Force. I'm a Viet Nam era veteran. We've been watching the news all day with smiles on our faces but I keep thinking about my worst day in the service - the day the Leonard Matlovich story hit Time Magazine. I was in my 8th year of duty and the slurs and slime put me in a funk that, come to think of it, I really never got over. I loved my experience in the Air Force and I count it as the smartest move I ever made, but it was a humiliation beyond explanation to stand there with my mouth zipped for fear of being thrown to the ditch and have to endure the awful stuff I heard.

To Tech Sergeant Leonard Matlovich, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are ten times the man of courage I ever was.
