Until such time as the "real" Christians publicly and continuously oppose these "non-real" Christians, then the "real" Christians are complicit at best.

I think the reason they've focused so much on Africa (Uganda especially) is because they know their overall agenda (which goes far beyond simply eliminating gay people) would not succeed in America or most other developed countries...and attempting to implemement it might actually overplay their hand and/or get them prosecuted. I also think they are using Africa as a laboratory to see what they can get away with. It's not a coincidence that one of the things that stopped the Anti-homosexuality Bill was threats to cut off aid.

These kind of Christians...and the politicians they work with...are obsessed with money.

I've actually heard some Pentecostal Christians say they believe Africa is much more Christian than America.

I guess they must not be reading from the same Bible that I had to, which said thou shalt not kill. I'm pretty sure that also covers inducing others to kill on your behalf.

I suspect the appeal of this man, and others like him (NOM's revolving door of directors comes to mind) is really quite simple: If I focus on hating gays, then I needn't trouble myself with all the really tough aspects of being a righteous Christian.

When one considers that this man, alone, is responsible for the continued attempts to legislate genocide in Africa, it places the strength of the anti-gay movement in America into perspective. We are up against truly powerful and highly committed enemies, people like Lively who truly want us dead.

Speaking as someone who was raised Christian and was a Christian for most of my life, I have yet to see much that actually fits the bill for Christian behavior from Mr. Lively.

I recieved a majority of the basic theological education that I have in the 1980's when AIDS was constantly in the news, and I don't recall being taught that having a creepy obsession with other people's sexual behavior was something that was even considered an acceptable behavior itself. I was (being a kid at the time) taught to avoid people that acted like that. Likewise, I was taught that lying is bad, generally, and usually more trouble than it's worth...and that somebody who lies a lot should likewise be avoided.

I was in fact taught that such things as sex were an individual's private business and certainly not something to be talked about in front of a Christian audience by a Christian Pastor of any sort. (Basically, nobody's business but your doctor's or when you're old enough to get married...your spouse's and your's.)

Scott Lively is in my opinion a liar and a pervert, and I think it's rather telling that he had a sex offender working for him in a place that was aimed at outreach to teens.

There's something not right about this guy on multiple levels, how the hell do so many Christians (or "Christians" for that matter) not pick up on such things??

Thank you for the quote marks around "Christian;" the notion put forth by his side and accepted by far too many that Christianity requires being anti-gay is, to some of us, a constantly-rubbed sore spot that never grows a callus.
