He got the order wrong — you’re supposed to develop a successful career as a preacher *before* everyone finds out you like to dress in drag….

I could never fear or put down a man in a dress. The pompous guy carrying the Bible is scarier. He’s casting stones…as if his house wasn’t made of glass.

However, I would use a different approach. Well, that’s just me.
But differences is why it’s a horse race, right?

A lot of the kids are ALL dressed in shorts and t-shirts.
How unisexually and cross dressed can you get?
And yep, it’s a good bet that those Bible thumpers love eating pork.

Personally, I wouldn’t show up doing something so easily ridiculed.
Because the Bible thumpers take themselves SO seriously, it’s hard not to laugh at their expense.
And do it in a big, attention getting way.

Congratulations on a mockery well done. Just put on a dress and repeat their hate.

That was awesome, I wish that would happen at schools and churches more often, I mean if those bible hatters can come onto campus then why can’t we go on their grounds?

I love how the bible thumper in the white shirt was shouting “your all a bunch of hatters!” As he’s shouting words like fag and queer. And what’s up with his son being there, shouldn’t he be in school?

Love it. It’s noticeable how, whenever the preacher gets a word in edgewise, he has nothing but slurs and insults for everyone present. No wonder he isn’t making much headway.

I agree with mikeksf. . . this sort of taunt is exactly what these religious zealots want. They live for the confrontation. Ignoring them, not giving them a 19 minute internet platform, seems to me much more crushing to their mission than for a well-intended, yet another over-the-top demonstration of our disapproval.

No one will change thier opinion or understanding of the gay community as a result of this type of confrontation. Funny, absolutely yes; effecting positive change nope; detrimental to our cause. . . probably.

In response to several other posts: unfortunately, ignoring bigotry doesn’t make it go away. It’s like ignoring a cancer: it just gets worse. There is definitely a place for this type of “political theatre” in the movement. Remember, historically it was often only the Court Jester or Clown who could get away with telling the emperor that he had no clothes! Here’s another thing to remember: many fundamentalists suffer from narcissistic personality disorder…and nothing bothers a narcissist quite like getting laughed at…

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

Daniel Fetty Doesn’t Count

Daniel FettyThe FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.
