The nature of hate crimes is so very different from murder as the result of a robbery, for example.
Robbers require getting their task done quickly, they are far more furtive and have no time for a prolonged attack.

Rape, and other crimes planned specifically for the torture of the victim, require an assessment of the victim and purpose for harming them.
And hate crimes have an element of displaying the victim out in the open for the purpose of a message, as well.

The overly excessive violence towards Mr. Walker, suggest anti gay motive.
It’s so horrible and frightening for the communities gay people live in.
And if they ever catch these monsters, I wonder what their defense would be?

The media took 36 hours or so before his sexuality was mentioned. It was all over social media sunday AM. This raised the specter of past homophobic murders which did not receive national media attention here, such as Michael Causer. Today, this seems to have changed though various media are covering it very differently. Also, there has been a reported spike in homophobic attacks in Scotland, which most aren’t mentioning. Many people think the nature of the violence does point to a homophobic attack but obviously we don’t know anything for sure yet except the bare facts.
