Why can't any of these idiots see that all it takes is to keep creeping to the right long enough and pandering to the Protestant Fundamentalist religious right4...and it WILL be the rights of Catholics and Mormons that are under attack, besides all the rest of us who aren't white Christian Fundamentalists??

For the love of the gods, this crap has to stop somewhere. If you give a mouse a cookie he's going to want a glass of milk. Why the hell do politicians keep sucking up to ignorant religious nuts?

These are people who should've never been given a taste of power in the first place, the Republicans used to be able to play them mercilessly because they were dumb, now the Republicans are the ones who are being played...and they're both dumb as a box of rocks.

Did the box of rocks have any comment on Santorum winning those primaries?

The 9th Circuit ruled that animus toward gays was a primary reason Prop 8 even existed, to single out one group for attack.

You know, in some areas of this country, a referendum prohibiting Mormons from owning property would probably pass because of the animus toward Mormons. Would Mr. Romney defend that majority vote if it was his group that was attacked?

The "Constitution as it is written" established an INDEPENDENT judiciary. The Founders designed it, intended it to be as free from the influence of individuals -- like Presidents -- as possible. Our country has rule of law with cases decided on the basis of the law and the facts of the case. The Constitution established this clearly.

Is Romney saying he would instruct a judge how to decide a case? That is exactly the kind of influence the Founders wanted to prevent.

And the Constitution is SILENT, SILENT I tell you about marriage.

Why does Mitt Romney hate the Constitution?

First off, I see the word tyrant or tyrannical used in a couple of the memes from the anti-gay groups. They’re commandeering the word because they want to offset the off-used phrase “protect us from the tyranny of the masses”. But we see through that.

Emily and Mr. Kincaid have hit the irony nail on the head.

I wish someone would ask Mr. Mitt Romney a question. During his Mormon missionary work in France how did he explain his religion’s racist policies with regards to African-Americans. He had to rationalize, somehow, why some people would not be able to attend all the rites and rituals in Mormon Temples, because they were Black.

Mitt has had good practice at making rationalizations about his religion’s racist history. He certainly doesn’t have to work too hard with justifying keeping gays second-class citizens. He uses weak logic and religious dogma as a crutch for his bigotry.

I will protect traditional marriage and appoint judges who interpret the Constitution as it is written and not according to their own politics and prejudices.

..without even the slightest awareness of the irony in this sentence.

He will appoint judges that have predetermined positions. That's really the only way to interpret that claim. He will select them based on their politics and prejudices.

And does he even know that the original judge who found Prop 8 unconstitutional was appointed by Bush?

Interesting that Romney complains about the (activist?) judges not being elected, then talks about the kind of (activist, unelected) judges he will appoint.

Oh for a journalist who would ask Romney if the people should have the right to make "eternal marriage" illegal or Newt whether there should be a referendum downgrading marriages after divorce to civil unions or domestic partnerships so as not to anger the same "Christians" who want to keep LGBT citizens as second-class citizens. Methinks their reactions would somewhat different.

Huge disappointment from Obama.

I'm not talking about his view on the marriage issue.

I'm talking about their abject willingness to defend the judiciary against an concerted, loud, and increasingly inured assault on it from the rightwing. It's not like they are fumbling the ball. It's more like he and his political team aren't even on the playing field!

I don't like a politicized judiciary. Little rankles me more. I like a strong, independent, judiciary, with a highly-professional culture. Not the judges-and-DA's-for-hire bullshit that Karl Rove cut his teeth on, years before he made it a national scandal.

If Obama is a friend to the community, they better get their but in the game, or they could get whooped by even a wishy-washy lightweight like Romney.
