That means they don't get the credit for things they do right (when they do them right), and the leads to the advancement of more of the lunatic right. If we don't support moderates (where possible), then they will not flourish, and then our ONLY choice is to run to the Dems, who may or may not win against the GOP. It's far better to be under both tents than to have to beg for shelter in only one. That said, the GOP has a lot of answering to do. Guiliani has at times been a friend, but at other times he has not, particularly on the issue of gay marriage. If it's a choice between Guiliani and most Dems, then the Dems are clearly the better friend to us. If it's a choice between Guiliani and the average Republican, however, he's an ally.
