This crime happened during a string of anti gay crimes that presented the same over kill features. Over a two year period it seemed like most of the victims were barely old enough to drive or vote. Only one during that time, was in his late 30's, but his killing was brutal and his body burned on a pile of tires. Members of a church on their way to a picnic found his body.
Imagine THEIR trauma at such a thing.

Scotty Joe Weaver was one of two sons who were the sole support of their mother, who was disabled by diabetes and high blood pressure.
Scotty had her remarkable blue/grey eyes. With long thick lashes. He was a very handsome boy, and his mother's pain I cannot imagine.
It wouldn't have surprised me if there were residual loss of the mom because of her health problems worsening after such a loss.
Scotty Joe had contracted cancer when he was fourteen.
A young cancer survivor who goes on to be killed so horribly.
I can't tell you, I cried a lot over these lost young people.
Over Sakia Gunn, Freddie Martinez...the list is incredible when I think of it.
And how similarly all were murdered.

I'm around teens like that all the time, as their mentor. Which makes it so painful for me to think, that their lives could be so, so cheap to anyone.
Because they are treasure beyond diamonds.

Excellent information as always. Just one thing, it's Justice Lewis Powell, not Power. A shame that even then the Supreme Court was deadlocked at 4-4 on such a simple, unequal issue.
