IT, the link is hard to follow. It starts out with page not found/work in progress. Click on that and then scroll down to a section listing military and click on that and work your way through to the story. I spent the time reading all 4 installments and would recommend all 4 for everyone else.

Thanks for the link.

It's not odd. Most of the Republicans in San Diego are old-style "checkbook" Republicans, interested in fiscal matters and pro-business, but not really bothered by social issues.

Yup, it's not a right-wing little Navy town any more. Even the Marines take gay dates to the Ball (see here: http://matthewphelps.wordpress.com/2011/12/01/on-marines-equality-and-my-date-to-the-marine-corps-birthday-ball-part-1/)

I don't vote for someone because s/he's gay, I vote on the issues. I was happy that Mayor Sanders came to his senses on equality, but I wanted Donna Frye to be mayor. And I agree with the post above, I'll vote for (straight and supportive) Bob Filner over any of the gay candidates because I agree with him on more of the issues.

I really look forward to the day when being gay is no longer something upon which we need to remark.

I live in San Diego, North County and I don't know any LGBT friends who are supporting either Dumanis or DeMaio, neither have done much to advance our causes or fight for equality.

I used to live in SD, and I know both DeMaio and Dumanis. I like Dumanis, but I, and most LGBT voters I know there will be supporting Filner (a straight LGBT Democrat).

I'll leave DeMaio to his outrageous comments about Toni Atkins (SD's first - acting - LGBT Mayor) which he gratuitiously told me while drunk and belligerent at a bar a few years back.

I do have to admit that DeMaio has grown up a little bit in the last couple of years, but he had so far to go in the first place.....he's not there yet.

I like Dumanis, and I'm proud to have voted for her when she first ran. Its going to be DeMaio versus Filner in the general. I hope its Dumanis (we can't lose that way). Which will set up a very interesting general where the openly Gay candidate will likely get less than 20 percent of the Gay vote. And he may still win election. I could vote for Dumanis in the general...but DeMaio...nah.

I miss living in San Diego. But its really, really expensive there. Still. And San Diego doesn't have that many high paying jobs in relation to its size.

East County S.D. probably does not support equality on the whole.

I think it more accurately reflects though that unless someone running tries to make gay equality an issue, then the voting population just doesn't care. Its a debate that in the end doesn't affect 98% of the population in any way. It takes a NOM or an anti-gay candidate to galvanize people to care.
