That is a good point Timothy. You are right, Dick Cheney is NOT criticized at ALL for sticking up for his daughter who is a lesbian, people understand and get it. I still remember when he first came out for Civil Marriage for Sexual Minorities, I looked up to him for standing up for his daughter and bucking the party.

I do think most people, even the ones who don't want Civil Unions will consider Rep Corman is in the wrong.

Funny thing is that Corem probably lost the respect of many conservatives with this move. Like most people, family is held in deep regard by conservatives and they can overlook most anything if you do it for your kids.

Dick Cheney is adored by the right. And that he endorses gay marriage is forgiven because he does it for his daughter.

But when you do things contrary to family and children they get nervous - even if it's what they want you to do. It's odd behavior. Don't you love your kids?

Yeah, there is no excuse for a parent that accepts doctrine more than their own child.
Especially the fact that they can't distinguish a child that's gay and the impact of their orientation, and a child that's a CRIMINAL or drug addict, thief or seriously disabled by mental illness.
How many sons have abandoned the grandchildren to foster care or into the care of grandparents?

Good, accomplished gay sons and daughters sometimes get treated WORSE than the aforementioned, and faith communities will lump them in with reprobates, while rejecting the idea that gay people are unjustly discriminated against similarly to blacks, Jews or women.

Never saw such twisted thinking over something like this.
Shame on the father, indeed.

I am with Lindoro Almaviva. That is not LOVE, that is not parental LOVE. ALL of his constituents WOULD understand a father sticking up for his son.

Conventional wisdom has it that if we all came out, everywhere, there would be so many loved ones and family that the whole question of gay rights would be over. This clearly demonstrates that some people's need to please a constituency, or their faithfulness to a moral point of view is so strong it overrides love for a gay child. Shame on this man, and shame on all parents who love their religion or their beliefs more than they love their children. Don Coram disgusts me.

I would refuse to speak to him if he was my father. I would refuse his calls, would not answer the door and return every gift unopened. Let his GOP family take care of him and go wipe his ass when he needs it.

As I said in an earlier posting, Corem's attitude must be taken as a direct slap at his son.

It will never make Dee Corem sorry he's gay, just make him sorry that Corem pere is his father.

Stupid question... but if he thought it should go to the floor for a vote, and if, as has been reported elsewhere, he's not running for reelection, why would he vote the way he did?
