How can you convince them that "it gets better" when they can't even see the light at the end of the tunnel? I really hope that cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York have better resources then they did back in the 80s, so that runaways, who are able to make their way here from those ugly places, have a safe haven to get to. I feel badly for any LGBT child that has to grow up in that environment. How can you convince them that “it gets better” when they can’t even see the light at the end of the tunnel?

Of course they'd deny it manifests in violence and tragedy. They'll deny they condone such violence, or that's what they meant to teach any children. Billy Lucas was a beautiful, gentle boy who didn't hit anyone, didn't want anything more than to be left in peace. When little boys like this have grown up to have to endure a prison sentence because of being taught such things about gays, do those parents cheer then and express pride in what they taught their children? I think not. Such cowardice and hypocrisy of purpose can take the breath away.
