Judge Walker had been stymied on his first nomination to the bench. If the Democrats had had their way the second time he was nominated (which included Nancy Pelosi, a fact she'll no doubt shove under the rug), we would not have had a gay circuit judge striking down a marriage amendment as unconstitutional.

Sad all the way around.

As an aside, though, he bares a fascinating resemblance to Billy Strayhorn.

Right, Kaleo. It's no mystery why the Republicans voted for him. He would've been helping them out by recusing himself on gay marriage issues. The Democrats made the right call, here.

Not disappointing at all if you live in New Jersey and have to suffer the effects of Christie's policies each day. Everything he does is with calculated reason - and Harris' recusal would have been one more tool against the civil rights we are fighting for. He set the tone kicking Wallace off the court - let's not fool ourselves into thinking Christie serves anyone but himself.
