@Regan: They keep repeating that gay people choose to be gay because to admit otherwise blows a gigantic hole in their theology, and they lack the integrity--and sometimes the means--to address that fact.

Off topic but I suspect that if we had as many horses as cars it would actually be worse for the environment considering the beef industry is doing even more harm to he environment than the oil industry.

I'm almost having fun watching how certain Christians, perhaps even black folks, respond to their fellow supporting gay equality.
Almost.

It's kind of like watching someone who INSISTS horses and buggies are STILL the way to go, while everyone else is whizzing by them in a car, getting where they have to go a lot sooner and more efficiently.
It sucks to be the one left in the dust.
And those who think that at least horses are better for the environment, than exhaust emissions, never stepped in a road apple or had the job of scooping them up.

Anyway...
I've spent a lot of time dealing when black folks like this lately.
Especially around the time leading up to the passage of Prop. 8
Ministers, political activists of all kinds of other faiths and cultures, it's been interesting seeing their faces and expressions when they are talking about gay people.
A bit of a blank falls over them, and they start repeating shit they heard, rather than things those of us actually KNOW.
Which is why they keep repeating that gay people choose to be gay, no matter what the gay folks or better educated people have to say.

It's bad enough to deny the struggles of gay people over the centuries...but the real ugliness revealed is seeing people like this minister try to JUSTIFY maintaining what's caused those struggles to this day.
And seeing no commonality or similarity in how history's most virulent haters said and did the same things.

Perhaps he will feel more at home with Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council. Hell, if anti-gay hate can bring Muslims, Christians and Jews together in an interfaith love-fest, certainly it can bring together a former NAACP president and a Klansman. I'm not sure if Tony is a card carrying member, but I know that he has a long history of being very cozy with Grand Wizards and Aryan, racist organizations. Who care anyway, right? As long as we can agree to hate the queers our other differences are insignificant.

Here's the thing. If Mr. Ratliff went to a gay doctor who refused to treat him because of this decision, Ratliff would likely be the first to file suit in court. Unless he's willing to allow LGBT people to treat him with disdain, he's a total hypocrite.

I expect he'll join the fascist party next. Their views seem to be quite in line with his. Then again, so are most Republican policies, too.

Well, did anyone think that some people would not resign from the NAACP over this issue? I expect even more to resign.
