Church leaders were standing up and say it was god's curse on gay men. A very dark time for gays. The worst part of it is a CIA Dr. got a patient on the retrovirus. Making it clear to many that the CIA cooked it all up in a lab. Things are much better now, but never think for a second that some would not put us back in those days. We have to fight, and yes our very lives can depend on it. My best friend died as the Feds were cutting funding on HIV. They refused to allow life saving drugs to be used on HIV+ men that were sure to die shortly without them.
