Yet we keep hearing people claim that there is no history of gay people being oppressed, disadvantaged or discriminated against in America. After all, we “were never slaves and never had dogs unleashed on you!” Oh, and just for the record, we were also slaves since the very beginning of slavery.

Thanks for the Miami story. We forget it was no very long ago at all — in living memory — that these actions and attitudes were common.

Did smile in amusement, though, at the idea Miami in 1954 would be considered a “great civilization” on par with ancient Greece and Rome.
