This has the earmarks of a closeted gay man stuck in the only profession he found acceptable for himself drinking to forget his sorry circumstances.

And now he'll be living in San Francisco. Ouch.

How come no one's talking about the (local, San Diego) news report that, in addition to his mother, there was a "young male foreign exchange student" in the care w the boozy bishop?

The only one who's covered this aspect thus far: http://fathergeofffarrow.blogspot.com/2012/08/why-was-college-student-in-car-of.html

**He had told The Chronicle that he was “kind of frustrated” that his opposition to same-sex marriage drew such heavy notice. So look at it this way: for the time being we’ll have something else to talk about.**

I agree, but probably not the way he might find attractive. Most police departments are quite positive about the fact that very few people who get stopped for DUI are driving under the influence for the first time or even very occasionally but rather they are people who do so fairly often.

So I will accede to Cordileone's wish and we can talk about him being a drunk and a bigot.

And someone should make sure that the archbigot gets to read Ben in Oakland's assessment.

Ben: In answer to your first three questions, yes, and that's (one of the reasons) why I love you (strictly platonically, mind you).

But, but, but it doesn't count!

He got sloshed on wine while having a godly dinner with his mommy and friends!

@Dennis, "Our community...HOMOSEXUALS"?

Really Dennis? I don't know many people in "our community" who refer to gay people as "homosexuals outside of a scientific discussion".

Hello Dennis, I agree that we should not judge all Bishops and Priests for the crimes of the few. Implying that Cordileone might be a child molester or that he is homosexually repressed is inappropriate. However, is smirking at Cordileone's actual crime really that big an offense? I wish I was above feeling satisfaction at the failures of my enemies, but I am, apparently, not that mature.

I can not support his politics or that of the Catholic Church and agree that DUI is not responsible behavior. I am concerned that he is being painted with 'the broad brush' of every offense proven against other priests. Our community reacts negatively when all homosexuals are painted with the same brush as some who display behaviors that are deviant and harmful to others. Do we really have to take every conversation to the lowest level we can reach? How can we ever leave room for dialogue that will move all of us forward in society?
