So pro-equality Democrats who supported Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Obama (in 2008) were hypocrites? Glad to clear that up.

If during those elections there were viable pro-gay candidates who were working for marriage equality and could have been chosen as an alternative, then you bet.

David Koch spends millions and millions of dollars on the most extreme, anti-gay candidates in the party known for the most anti-gay platform. Can you really not figure out the difference?

I call “hypocrisy!” on anyone who claims to be a “friend” of anyone whom they then label with a pejorative and totally phony, made-up political or sexual curse-label. I would be more blunt than merely charging hypocrisy face to face, but BTB is a place which accomodates civil discourse and disagreement; a scarce internet value which I treasure.

“Extreme liberal” is a pejorative label. It was deliberately created as a pejorative label to offend liberals, by denying (as it does) liberals’ claims to reject all extremes. An extreme anything is by definition illiberal. Calling someone an extreme liberal is as intentionally offensive as using the terms “wingnut” and “moonbat.” Only two kinds of people use the term “extreme liberal.” They are either trying to insult or are ignorant of the oxymoronic nature of their labelling.

On David Koch’s “stating his position” Ben in Oakland, Ryan, Lord Byron and Hunter all have it exactly correct. Koch says he supports equality, but Koch’s MONEY supports bigotry because David Koch is a lying manipulator who hopes to fool ignorant people who don’t examine his actual record.

Koch also knows his lie on this issue can be and is used by both the ignorant and the manipulative to outrage and divide their “friends.” It isn’t a new tactic, and it wasn’t invented by David Koch; the Romans codified it with “divide and conquer.”

Timothy, I agree that politicians listen when billionaires speak, but only when said billionaires threaten to withhold money from their reelection coffers. I sincerely doubt that either of the Koch brothers will ever abandon the Republican party over their anti-gay views.

If you take a look at what happened in New York, where wealthy businessmen DID threaten to withhold money if the Republicans that they backed didn’t pass same-sexed marriage, they did stop, listen, and ultimately (at least a few) voted to approve it. That’s not a scenario that’s likely to ever happen with David Koch.

David Koch’s support for same-sex marriage isn’t going to translate into any real support. His money will go to elect politicians who will do as they’re told and taxes and subsidies for business — that is, make more money for him.

Libertarianism is most often expressed in government through the right, i.e. GOP.
