"Far fewer same-sex couples had children at home. Only 9.4 per cent of same-sex couples had at least one child at home while 47.2 per cent of heterosexual couples had families. Lesbians were almost five times more likely to have a child at home than gay males." http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/09/19/canada-marriage-census-2011_n_1896155.html?utm_hp_ref=canada

16.5% of lesbian couples have at least 1 child at home and 3.3% of gay couples (arithmetic). IVF, surrogacy, and other reproductive procedures are not covered by Canadian Medicare (other than pre-natal, delivery, and post-natal care) which helps to explain the lower rates; gay men have to be as rich as the New Normal couple to have a family.

Similar to BSA "re-evaluating" their policy.

Can't wait for the Huckabee response...

The Canadian Census 2011 family data were released this morning. Blanket coverage in Canadian media, including Montreal Gazette: "Statistics Canada said same-sex marriage nearly tripled between 2006 and 2011. The census data also shows the number of same-sex couples jumped 42.2 per cent during that same period.

The agency counted 21,015 married gay and lesbian couples and another 43,560 in common-law relationships. That’s up from the 2006 census, which enumerated 45,345 of them — 7,465 married and 37,885 common-law."
http://www.montrealgazette.com/life/Just+friends+census+have+counted+roommates+married+couples/7266078/story.html
(Multiply by 10 for approx. U.S. equivalents.)

I haven't yet seen any stats on children of gay and lesbian couples, i.e. New Normal.

And to highlight the culture differences between the U.S. and Canada, here's the National Post (right-wing business newspaper) opinion headline: "The non-conventional family boom — Is social conservatism dead politically?" http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/09/19/michael-den-tandt-census-increase-in-non-conventional-families-suggests-social-conservatism-dead-politically/
