Although if we’re tying to get in their heads, I think they’re generally opposed to tolerance and see that word as having all sorts of gay connotations. And I would’ve suggested the phrasing: “last shred of honesty” as “last shred of credibility on this issue” but that’s neither here nor there.

Also my high school did something like this every-year unofficially. We called it table swap & it was always (so far as I know) a grass-roots student movement to break down racial barriers in our high school. It’d begin with an upperclassman yelling out “table-swap” during a lunch period and then some folks who were so inclined an most upperclassmen would get up and go sit with some other group.

Turns out the local mega-church-cult-members didn’t come across so well & by my Junior year would not participate in Table Swap anymore (along with Racist rednecks who never reciprocated participation anyway).

Blake brought up the topic of understanding our opponents by recognizing their “worldview filter”. In the AFA’s eyes the SPLC IS a gay propaganda organization. They believe that radical gay activists are sneaky, cunning and in cahoots with the Devil. Even if they took the time to research the “Mix it Up” event (they probably even did), they would still believe that it is some sort of back-door ploy to destroy the U.S. via homosexuality.

hehe, I said “back-door” and “homosexuality” in the same sentence. (sorry, I’m twelve)

Knowledge and experience empowers greater good than the AFA can claim they’ve ever done.

Children who interact with people of different political and religious beliefs rarely grow up to be the type of adults who donate money to groups like the AFA. They know the demographics are turning against them and that if their children are allowed to stray outside their circle of church-approved friends and actually get to know others who don’t share the AFA’s brand of hardcore right-wing Christianity they might start questioning it.
