They are reviled by gay supporters who fight their political positions. They are shunned by middle of the road folk, who think they are mean. And they are denounced by anti-gays who don't want their views to be associated with the word "hate". To distance oneself from Westboro doesn't get you bonus points. And Sam Brownback is one of the most consistently anti-gay politicians in the country. Westboro Baptist is universally despised.
