"But it’s Arizona. Anything could happen."

History shows that Arizona is an extremely conservative state with a super majority in both areas of the state congress. I doubt this will go anywhere.

Let's not forget that Arizona voters defeated an anti-marriage equality amendment in 2006.

Still, I'm not enthusiastic about this - both for the reasons F Young stated above, and also because I believe people's rights should not be placed on the ballot for popular vote.

Most of these state constitution amendments aren't going to fall until the Supreme Court rules them unconstitutional.

Personally, I am concerned about an individual, especially a novice, taking this on by himself based on his gut feelings. I think that era has passed. An individual can do a lot of harm to us.

It appears that he does not already have partners and funding lined up. He should not assume that they and thousands of volunteers will be there when he needs them.

The fundamentals seem to be okay for marriage equality in Arizona:

However, I am not aware of opinion polling favoring same-sex marriage. One poll in November 2011 found 44% support, with 45% opposition:

Another poll in May 2012 found 39% support for marriage:

A constitutional amendment banning marriage equlity passed in 2008 with a 56-44 margin.
