The Roman Catholic church has long had a policy to permit priests to lay aside certain aspects of the priesthood if those aspects would not be accepted by the society in which they wish to work. Priests may marry if the society won't accept unmarried priests. So if Americans of the Roman Catholic crutch had any sense, they would refuse to support a church that refuses to have women priests. I suspect much of their lack of priests would be eliminated.

But better still is just to let them wither away.

If it is HER job, then they will discuss it with her, or it will not be discussed. This is America, not some backwards third world country. If they don't like it, they can go home. I'm sure the way things are going there will eventually be more Catholic churches there than there are here anyway.

I am associated in a peripheral sense with a Catholic dioceses. The problem is they have no new recruits. Where, in the past, when I was a young Catholic high school student, there were literally dozens of young seminarians eager to fill the ranks of the priesthood, now the few that ask for qualification can be counted on one hand.
However, the flood of African priests is seemingly unending. And they are all, pretty much to the man, virulently conservative. They tow the Vatican line tooth and toenail. They are also very sexists and homophobic. I know of a woman who worked in the office who was outraged when two of them refused to discuss their health insurance program with her. They told her to shut up that is man's work. They said that even though she was in charge of that program administration for that dioceses.
I am not, nor have I been for many years associated with the Catholic Church. But I have close family members who are intimately involved and having been raised amongst that cult I know others too.
The bishops are simply funding their future priests pool. In a way we are seeing the slow slog of their demise.

No surprise. Maintaining and expanding the Catholic Church's power always trumps human decency.
