Revchicoucc

As a reminder, Rick Warren issued a video calling on pastors in Uganda to speak out against the bill. So while he was a skeptic of our concerns in the beginning, after he read the bill he acted as a Christian.

But you are quite right about temporal powers.

@Timothy. Yes, I was thinking of Mr. Lively. But there have been a few others, most of whom have moved on to other agendas. I recall a certain Mr. Warren had a hand in all this at one time.

But, when I posted my earlier post, it was early in the day, I'd had only one cup of coffee, so I couldn't recall the names, nor supress my snarkier side.

My non-snarky point is that religious folks who align themselves too closely with temporal powers all too often find themselves being used for temporal purposes.

I think by now no one who isn't attempting to benefit from this and/or insane would admit to supporting this thing. So yeah, aside from a few corrupt Ugandan officials and Scott Lively I can't imagine its getting a lot of support.

I recall thinking that American anti-gay religious nuts were attempting to use Uganda as a laboratory to see what they could get away with. If they were, it seems to have backfired on all levels especially because with the repeated Parliament meltdowns over the Oil Bills the whole thing appears to have been exposed as a scam.

I wonder if that doesn't explain the silence from most American Evangelical leaders...no one likes to be used, and I imagine a lot of these guys feel kind of dirty after having been pawns in something that has little if anything to do with religion.

Revchicoucc,

I won't dispute with you the author of deception and confusion... but I think you overstate "fundamentalist Christian American supporters of the anti-homosexuality bill".

Who are these people?

I'm sure there are many who should - if they have any moral integrity - be loudly opposing it, but are not. However, as for "supporters", well there are not many. Other than Scott Lively, I would be hard pressed to come up with a list that would not fit on a cocktail napkin. In large print.

Agnostic that I am, I'm rather certain that if Jesus actually showed up again and behaved in the same way that the Bible states that He did, American Christian Fundamentalists would be the first ones shouting "Crucify Him" or whatever.

They don't care if they're pawns and being used, so long as they get to feel powerful and pick on the gays. That doesn't go over so well in America anymore so now they have to export their issues. "Let the weak say that he is a mighty man" as the Bible puts it.

When I used to study the End Times and stuff, I never thought that so much of what it said about corruption and people willfully following false teachers would apply within Christianity itself, but that seems to be the case.

What? There might be politics going on in Uganda? I'm shocked, shocked, to learn that Uganda has other issues besides preserving the morality of the nation. I'm equally shocked that the fundamentalist Christian American supporters of the anti-homosexuality bill are obviously oblivious to the politics of the situation.

Do you think they are being used by Museveni and his allies to further other agendas? Could this be a deception and confusion designed to enrich himself? And who is the author of deception and confusion, you ask?

SATAN! Thus making the fundamentalist Christian American supporters of the anti-homosexuality bill instruments of SATAN! Now that I'm not shocked about at all.
