NOM’s Press releases are tragic these days. They sound like Karl Rove predicting a victory for Mitt Romney based on internal polling numbers.

Given NOM’s record this year, I find Mr. Eastman’s predictions to be encouraging. They got four elections wrong, despite every public statement being about how they knew what the voters would do. Mr. Eastman will forgive me for doubting he is a confidante of any Supreme Court justice. Not that I need his forgiveness for thinking he’s an idiot.

He’s head of an organization that has no grassroots support, is losing its funding, and has been defeated on almost every initiative it’s pursued this year. NOM seems to rely very heavily on the idea of self-fulfilling prophecies, so Eastman’s reaction to the granting of cert in the marriage cases is no surprise. What would be a surprise would be a statement that actually referred to the issues.
