Sorry, Roops. You're a bloody pain and a constant source of friction and discord on-set as well as off. THAT's why no one leaps forward to offer you work.

Yes, Stephen. With the exception of being represented by WME, "YES" to all your questions.

Has anyone here actually worked as an actor? Hm? No? Anyone got any first-hand experience of how movies are cast? Hm? Anyone? No? Anyone been in a room with the director and producers? Hm? No? Anyone got first-hand experience of negotiating a deal? Anyone represented by WME? Anyone?

Mr Everett has done some very good work. But he didn't want to be an actor he wanted to be a movie star. Personally I don't think much of that ambition but he's right that movie stars, in the year of our lord 2013, can't yet be openly gay. Not if they want to be the next Bond - again, why anyone would want to to be that is beyond me. That's his point. That will no doubt change but that's reality today.

No, no, it's not that he's bitter and generally disagreeable, it's the right-wing theater owners. It's not that no one wants to remake Whose Afraid of Virginia Wolfe by accident, it's Reaganomics. It's not that the cast -and crew- would quit en masse should he be hired, heavens no, it's homophobic Hollywood.

No we shan't think that Rupert Everett cannot get work - in an industry that gives us Daniel Day Lewis and Honey Boo Boo, Daniel Craig and Jessie Tyler Fergusen, Masterpiece Theater and the Kardashians. No, indeed his failure is not through any fault of his own, it's those horrible people who are abusing him for being gay.

Though in a way he has a point. It is partly my fault. I certainly wouldn't go see a movie in which he played the big heterosexual romantic lead.

I prefer it when I can like the lead enough to hope that he gets the girl rather than that she whallops him over the head with a skillet and feeds him to the alligators.

Since when has Hollywood not been gay-friendly? Yes, I know decades ago, but does he really think you can't get a job if your gay?

He is acting like he is the only actor not getting rolls and many of them are not gay and can't use that as an excuse!

It is more about luck then talent that gets an actor work. If your last movie does not make money chances are it will be your last movie and not because you are an out gay person!

I mean, he's not wrong. We have yet to see an openly gay male actor play the dashing straight lead in a blockbuster picture, although I do hope Matt Bomer changes that soon. Gay men do have a difficult time getting lead parts or playing straight characters.

The offensive assertion, to me, is that the lead roles and awards and blockbuster pictures are more important than honesty and acceptance in one's personal life. Someone's priorities are messed up, but I guess that's all of Hollywood for you.

Oh my god that was a mess. I really should reread and edit my comments before I post.

Hopefully my point gets sorted out of the train wreck.

The only movie was in that I liked was Another Country and it would have been just as good had someone else played the part of Guy Bennett had been played by any one of a number of other actors. He should have just crawled into a cave and been miserable in solitary confinement after he finished that movie.

It's now his schtick. It's the only way he will get noticed--when they need someone to present the "other side" of coming out, they'll call him. Otherwise, the phone doesn't ring.
