I know what you&#039;re getting at, but there are a lot of gay and straight people who are self-respecting who seek the legal, civil benefits of marriage and who don&#039;t give a hoot about the religious benefits of marriage.

For a growing segment of the general population, the blessing of a church is inconsequential to their marriage.

I get what you&#039;re saying about the general terriffic-ness of marriage, but be assured, not a single couple in America needs to have a religious ceremony for their marriage to hold water in legal proceedings.</description>
