Dutch military disagrees with Sheehan’s revision of the Srebrenica massacre

Timothy Kincaid

Retired General Jack Sheehan’s assignment of the blame for the Srebrenica massacre to gay Dutch soldiers was not confirmed by the Dutch. From Voice of America

Asked for comment, Dutch military officials expressed astonishment. The spokesman for the Netherlands Ministry of Defense, Roger van de Wetering, told VOA Sheehan’s assertions are “total nonsense” and that he “cannot believe that a man of that rank is stating such a thing.” He added that he had never heard Sheehan’s allegation before from any source in the Netherlands or anywhere else.

Many historians have argued that Dutch peacekeeping forces in the Balkans were under-equipped and hampered by operational limitations imposed by the United Nations.

@Duane:

Duane, Sheehan is a lying bigot trying to make a name for himself in in an already crowed field along with other lying bigots. He’ll probably get elected to congress on the weight of his testimony.

How long before Sheehan has his Roy Ashburn moment?

No better than the religious-right, grandstanding using lies and bigotry for 15 minutes of fame. Talk about loss of credibility…. and I think that point wasn’t lost on the Committee.

I wish someone could identify and speak with the former chief of staff of the Dutch army, which was the “source” for Sheehan’s statement. I’d bet money that he denies ever having said it.

Anyway, in 15 years this is the first time I have ever heard of this allegation from anyone, and I follow events in the former Yugoslavia. It is ridiculous. The fact that the DADT supporters can only justify the policy with an unsupported assertion passed on third-hand really tells you who is really engaged in social engineering and who is really politicizing military standards.

The truth is that all Blue Helmet operations become problematic once fighting begins. They have no real ability to challenge the combatants and can only be a “presence”. That is exactly what happened at this “safe area” in Bosnia.

You could point to the former UN presence in Lebanon or the UN presence in Rwanda in 1994. If you want to see UN impotence, check out Hotel Rwanda. All of the UN troops there liked girls, and a million people perished. Ergo, heterosexuality was to blame.

The Dutch are furious over these remarks and themselves point out that many other countries, including Isreal and Canada have openly gay service members in active duty. This guy is a wing-nut – hopefully this comes back to bite him in the arse, big time!

Here in the Netherlands it is in the news all day. Our government says Sheehan is a liar, our ambassador has sent this message to the US government and the military and military unions are furious about this nonsense! Srebrenica was lost, because no air support was given contrary to the promises. In not one report about this matter is there nay mentioning of homosexuals. The man is a liar!

Quoted for truth. Also read Romeo Dallaire’s book “Shake Hands with the Devil” and you’ll get an actual, detailed, insider perspective on how impotent the UN was in Rwanda. And how it really wasn’t the UN’s fault. The western countries really don’t want their soldiers to die in an inter-tribal war in a place that had no strategic value.

Some of the same issues were at play in Yugoslavia, particularly given that it was historically in the Soviet sphere of influence and the Serbs and Russians were historic allies.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
