RNC Attacks Obama Over Gay Issues

Jim Burroway

April 4th, 2011

President Barack Obama officially announced today that he would seek a second term in 2012. The Republican National committee responded with a web site, “Hope Isn’t Hiring,” where we ‘mo’s made three of the GOP’s top ten social issues:

1. Despite It Being The Law Of The Land, Obama Refused To Continue To Defend The Defense Of Marriage Act In Court.

2. Obama Repealed Don’t Ask Don’t Tell While U.S. Troops Are Still On The Battlefield.

… 6. Obama Opposed California’s Prop 8 And Has Expanded Government Recognition Of Same-Sex Couples.

Also, writing in sentence case is so elitist.

How are the Log Cabin Republicans and GOProud responding to all of this?

What is fascinating is that when you go to “see more” it reads as though it were supportive of the community. Angry anti-gay headline followed by pro-gay discussion about discrimination.

Do they simply not get it that most Americans will not read :

Instead, Obama Supports Civil Unions, The Extension Of Legal Benefits To Gay Couples, Which He Says Provide Important Rights To Gays And Lesbians In Their Everyday Lives.

President Obama’s decision Thursday night to grant same-sex couples hospital visitation rights is the latest and most visible example of a strategy to make concrete steps toward equality for gays and lesbians without sparking a broad cultural debate or a fight with Congress.

and think “hospital visitation? How dare he offer hospital visitation!! And civil unions instead of marriage? What a radical!!”

Either the staffer compiling the list is so far on the extreme right that he sees hospital visitation as a Threat to The American Family or else he thinks that the only people reading this will.

At least, Log Cabin Republicans have fought against these horrible and bigot-themed statements.

GOProud would probably try to reinstate sodomy laws and get Coulter elected to office.

(I’m not a fan of either, but at least the Log Cabin team can command some respect from us.)

I have so much power that I command 30% of the RNC’s daily brainpower. That is awesome.

“…Obama Opposed California’s Prop 8…”

Yet they were all so content saying that he agreed with it during its campaign.

In G.O.P., the ‘I’ stands for integrity.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

Straight From The Source: What the “Dutch Study” Really Says About Gay Couples

Daniel Fetty Doesn’t Count

Daniel FettyThe FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.
