“I Genuinely Admired Frank Kameny’s Courage and Pioneer Spirit, But…”

An anti-gay activist pays tribute, after a fashion, to the late Frank Kameny. Let me just say that those emails that Michael Brown shared are pure Frank.

Just an FYI – apparently there is a group here in DC that is collecting money to pay for Kameny’s funeral. The Washington Blade has the details, including that this charity had been helping Kameny meet his living expenses over the last few months.

Michael Brown (who never strapped up in the service of his country), still had a caveat about Kameny’s service.

The “better way” Brown is always yapping about wears the nerves. It’s on face an arrogant and self serving attitude.

It doesn’t occur to Brown that the most authentic ‘better way’ is gay/straight alliance in mutual respect and cooperation to tackle more pressing issues together.

But, as always…people like Brown like to assume there is only ONE way, and it MUST be what hetero men like himself, force it to be.
And it’s the gay person that deserves to be sacrificed in the process. Never EVER considering that such a sacrifice does no good, nor creates anything better.

Brown, inevitably will find a way to use a gay person to get attention.
Now it’s Frank Kameny.

I mean, actually DOING some good works independent of gay people might be a new and innovative way to go about his life.
Ya think?

An amusing but a bit disturbing anecdote:

As an author at I have access to all of the comments in one place and, as I try to read every posted comment, often will use that roll as source rather than reading comments thread by thread. Lately, I’ve been quite busy and have not given BTB as much time as I would like resulting in some quick skimming of comments.

So, when I read CPT-Doom’s comment above, it was not in context. And I somehow came up with another notion based on my brain’s phonetic translation of Kameny’s name.

Before moving on, I briefly wondered, “Why is there a group in New York raising money for the funeral of the Libyan dictator and what relevance is this to BTB? I didn’t even know he was dead!”

Then today I read the Muammar el-Qaddafi has been killed in Libya.

Coincidence?

No! I’m prescient! I’ll be setting up a booth on the boardwalk, wearing exotic clothes, and speaking in a funny accent. Look for me.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International.
