Family “Research” Council Blames “Bullies” For Boy Scout Policy Change

This email went out moments ago under the subject line, “Will the Boy Scouts stand up to bullies?”

For decades, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have heroically withstood attacks from homosexual activists. Now, officials from the organization have indicated that this may be about to change. The BSA says that it is “discussing potentially removing the national membership restriction regarding sexual orientation.”

“Be prepared.” The motto of the venerable organization that has helped develop countless boys into men, preparedness is not only an aspiration, but a descriptor. Thus far they’ve been prepared to withstand the constant bullying by those who work to bring down all that the millions of dedicated Scouts and Scout leaders stand for.

A departure from their long-held policies would be devastating to an organization that has prided itself on the development of character in boys. In fact, according to a recent Gallup survey, only 42 percent of Americans support changing the policy to allow homosexual scout leaders.

As the BSA board meets next week, it is crucial that they hear from those who stand with them and their current policy regarding homosexuality. Please call the Boy Scouts of America at 972-580-2000 and tell them that you want to see the organization stand firm in its moral values and respect the right of parents to discuss these sexual topics with their children.

Please call the Boy Scouts at 972-580-2000!

Oh yes, do please call the Boy Scouts at 972-580-2000 — that’s 972-580-2000! — and thank them for opening Scouting up to those who have been bullied the most. Operators are standing by.

“you want to see the organization stand firm in its moral values and respect the right of parents to discuss these sexual topics with their children.”

they can never resist “gays are gonna get your children” fear mongering, can they?

The enormous irony here is that Baden-Powell, the man who actually FOUNDED

Don’t know why that suddenly post, but let’s try again.

The enormous irony here is that Baden-Powell, the man who actually FOUNDED the Boy Scouts and began the Scouting movement, was himself gay.

These BSA idiots are foolishly reading “morally straight” in the creed as meaning straight sexuality-speaking. People this stupid shoulde NEVER be allowed anywhere near our kids.

Actually we don’t know what Baden-Powell was except he married quite late and there are some other circumstances that might indicate he was gay. However he did eventually marry and had several children.

I note the BSA is still not lifting the ban on atheists. The GSUSA btw has never, as far as I know, had an officical ban on gays/lesbians and has allowed atheists since 1993 (by allowing girls to use alternative words for ‘God’ in the promise).

Scouts and Guides in Britain don’t ban gays/lesbians and are discussing modifying their promises to allow atheists to participate fully (apparently one can participate at many though not all levels in the Guides without making the promise).

If the boy scouts ever do lift the ban on atheists I wonder if the right wing conservatives will find that more upsetting than the lift on the ban on gays.

Paraphrasing, I think, will Rogers, asto why they are not lifting the ban on atheists.

“I belong t no organized political party. You see, I a, an atheist.”

I just visited HotAir and read the responses to the possible lifting of the ban. The responses what you would expect, horrible. There is no reasoning with people who hold such views.

I am so excited and thrilled to see this! I had long thought that a good way for BSA to get away from endless fighting over “the policy” would be to turn the decision over to individual troops or councils, and now it looks like this is exactly what they may be considering. Unfortunately, the continuing furor over “the policy” is detracting from BSA’s core mission of providing wonderful programming for young men (and women, too, in Venturers). And I should know, both my sons went all through the end of high school and one of them Eagle’d, and I also served as an adult volunteer.

This will really be a terrific day, if National actually does do the right thing here. I can’t wait!

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International.
