Anti-anti-gay music video

Normally Box Turtle’s brow is a bit higher, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Often I am so engrossed in the discussion about gay rights that I forget how much I like gay people, how proud I am of the people in our community and how happy I am to be a part of it. Of course not all gay people are the same, but could you ever imagine this sort of humor coming out of the other camp? (Language NSFW)

Thanks to Michael for posting steviedidit’s original, and thanks to all the collaborators, French and American. These two vids are not the reasoned discussion approach that I usually advocate, and they aren’t the ‘highbrow’ Jesus-Jack Black Hollywood musical, but they give me a good chuckle every time I watch them – which means every night since they were posted.

You mean het-folk? Sure, I can imagine that. Not the anti-gay folk, but I try not to conflate the two. That aside, this *was* really cathartic. I’m going to have the tune in my head for a while, I think…

Right but wrong-

Using hate to fight hate? Don’t you see that you are descending to their level with this? Cute song, I fully support the cause…
but I was offended by it’s hypocrisy! Listen to the lyrics again and imagine if it was them singing about us!!!

astounding.

Love is the answer, everybody

I feel your conundrum, and I don’t deny your point, but there are a few things to consider.

First of all, virtually everything the anti-gay industry and its employees do and say about us is one big long F-gays “song.” Except they don’t even have the respect for us to call it for what it is, hatred. This song is honest enough to afford them that respect.

Second, this song expresses a hatred of arbitrary hatred, it is the same as being intolerant of arbitrary intolerance, only one form is justifiable.

Third, even Love has a sense of humor, and the humorous and cathartic expression of this “hatred,” helps to blunt that deep-seated real hatred that many of us feel toward them, and inspires, at least for me, to be more creative with the expression of my own hatred.

Fourth, of course they’re going to use this against us, but they already use even our love for them against us, just look at what they say about SoulForce.

And beyond the “hate what you do and hate your whole crew” lyric, I’m assuming this be the other one you’re talking about:

♪ You say, we need to go to war, well you’re already in one. ‘Cause it’s people like, you who need to get slew, no one wants your opinion…♪

Again, the anti-gays already “sing” this about us. I think it’s safe to assume that anyone who is disappointed by the Lawrence v. Texas ruling, believes that our relationships should be criminalized. And part of their anti-gay mantra is the recitation of Leviticus 20:13, which insists that gay men should be put to death, which many of them would gladly approve of if given the theocratic chance.

However, I don’t ascribe that same sentiment to the song. To me, their talk of “war” and “need to get slew” is not about killing, but about the culture war, as qualified by the statement “no one want’s your opinion.”

There’s little reaching the die-hard anti-gays, it’s pretty much all about reaching the moveable middle. In either case, I see your point, but I think that cathartic expressions like this one can be a cleansing respite that leads to a more energizing and loving approach toward reaching those who can be reached.

In other words, it’s songs like these that ultimately help us to get the real hatred out of our systems.

Word. I used to be offended by words like “faggot” and “queer”. Young people using the term, “gay” to describe something lame may offend some people. It does not offend me. I’m 50 now. I don’t care what “they” think. I just want the same SS benefits my father had with my mother and step-mother. They were both able to increase their SS benefit because of their marriage to my father.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
