Don Wildmon Steps Down From AFA

Jim Burroway

March 3rd, 2010

According to a press release from the American Family Association, Donald Wildmon, the AFA’s chairman has resigned due to an illness. From August to November of last year, Wildmon battled St. Louis encephalitis from a mosquito bite. He also underwent surgery for cancer on his left eye. His son, Tim Wildmon, is expected to take over as head of the AFA.

The elder Wildmon will continue to work at AFA, but according to the press release he “will not have a leadership role.” His son has had a prominent role at the AFA for quite some time, and with his father’s presence still around, I wouldn’t expect too many changes.

Precisely! I get their “AFA Newsletter” and follow OneNewsNow. Tim has been signing the letters for almost a year now. Don’t expect ANY changes, just same ole same ole.

I would really love to know why the Southern Poverty Law Center still hasn’t listed the AFA as a hate group…

What is it with the conservatives and their inherited positions? Billy Graham’s son, Oral Robert’s son, Phyllis Schlafly’s son, George Bush’s son, Dick Cheney’s daughter, the Kagans, etc., etc. I realize the Democrats had the Kennedys. But sheesh.

Speaking of conservatives and their inherited positions, Liz Cheney is especially sad to see. I really don’t see her stepping out for / to the LGBT community that much anymore However, I don’t believe she really did much in the first place while her father was in charge, and I use the phrase “while her father was in charge” without jest.

For the record: out of those inheriting christian positions from their fathers, Franklin Graham is not a jackass like some you mentioned.

Liz Cheney is straight. Mary Cheney, her sister, is a lesbian.

A great pity that, when his time comes, there won’t be a hell for this horrible man to go to.

Inquiring minds want to know:

Why did god smite this arch-holyman with cancer and who knows what else? What evil did he ocmmit that would bring about this punishment?

My god can beat up your god.

Gordo… oh yeah…the weird thing is, I never remember seeing Liz Cheney until AFTER Bush/Cheney left the White House. Then, I haven’t seen Mary Cheney and I’ve only seen Liz Cheney. Forgive me for mixing the two, because I thought — for a minute — they were one and the same.

I realize appearance-wise, they are not the same, but…where IS Mary?

When it is one of their own “it is God’s will” and “Thy Will Be Done”, but when it is a gay person, the “God’s will” changes to “God’s Wrath on your sinful lifestyle”.

Don’t forget Dobson’s son. Daddy Dobson is even hurting Focus on the Family to put his son in power.

IMO, Billy was far better than Franklin.

In this original BTB Investigation, we unveil the tragic story of Kirk Murphy, a four-year-old boy who was treated for “cross-gender disturbance” in 1970 by a young grad student by the name of George Rekers. This story is a stark reminder that there are severe and damaging consequences when therapists try to ensure that boys will be boys.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. But that is exactly what happened. In this report, we review our collection of more than 500 posts to tell the story of one nation’s embrace of hatred toward gay people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.

From the Inside: Focus on the Family’s “Love Won Out”

On February 10, I attended an all-day “Love Won Out” ex-gay conference in Phoenix, put on by Focus on the Family and Exodus International. In this series of reports, I talk about what I learned there: the people who go to these conferences, the things that they hear, and what this all means for them, their families and for the rest of us.

Straight From The Source: What the “Dutch Study” Really Says About Gay Couples

Daniel Fetty Doesn’t Count

Daniel FettyThe FBI’s annual Hate Crime Statistics aren’t as complete as they ought to be, and their report for 2004 was no exception. In fact, their most recent report has quite a few glaring holes. Holes big enough for Daniel Fetty to fall through.
