Eddie Long in the Mirror

Eddie Long: A Guy With an iPhone

ABC News has obtained some seriously TMI photos of Bishop Eddie Long, the rabidly anti-gay preacher who has been accused by three men of inappropriate sexual conduct. According to B.J. Bernstein, the lawyer for two of the men accusing Long of coercing them into having sex with him, the photos were sent to one of the plaintifs via e-mail in November 2008 and is signed, “Eddie L Long, Amazed by His Grace.” Bernstein asks:

“What pastor in his right mind sends a picture from himself, posing in his bathroom in a muscle shirt? None that I know of. Especially one who is a committed homophobe.”

Eddie Long

Eddie Long, "Amazed by His Grace."

Umm, … yuck!

According to separate lawsuits filed in DeKalb County, Ga., by [Maurice] Robinson, [Anthony] Flagg and now [Jamal] Parris, Long conducted what they called private spiritual ceremonies in which he “coerced certain young male members and employees” into sexual acts and relationships. Now in their 20s, the men claim in their lawsuits that they were teenagers when Long showered them with “cars, clothes, jewelry and electronics,” flew them across the world in private jets and booked them into luxury hotels, all the while pushing them into a sexual relationship.

…In the lawsuit, Robinson and Flagg claim that Long used Bible Scripture to “reinforce the God-like connection between himself and the young [men]. The accusations, according to court documents, also claim that Long would try to block sexual relationships the young men had with women.

I dono… he’s pretty built if you’re into the whole self hating conflicted older black men scene.

Well, I’ll be damned if those robes are unflattering for a man so well-built.

Pity the inside doesn’t match the outside.

It’s not as hypocritical as you think. “Grace” is what he calls his penis.

Crashing down to Earth:

It appears (before us) that Bishop Long got carried away…as I was reading this I am reminded (deep down in my innermost truth department) of various ¨tangents¨ from wisdom, good taste and basic common sense that I´ve exhibited over the years since my youth…quite obviously with much strutting and prancing a great deal of effort went into this personal love fest and share and ¨show¨ (I can still feel the pain from all those sit-ups)…the enthusiastic audience was probably numerous as well as simply the joy of seeing his own fitness)…it´s not so surprising that Pastor Eddie may have gotten carried away…the signs are all there, this guy may have started beliving his own image was as Godlike as the God he worships…he´s worshipping something in that bathroom and it ain´t a alter ¨call.¨ Get real, stay real, I´m reminded of ¨arrogance before the fall.¨

Who cares as long as it was consensual, what are we the morality police now?

Ryan

No Rarian, Long appointed himself in that role. That’s kind of the point.

We truly live in a hypocritical society

That’s right, JimInMA. Young victims of sexual harassment/coercion are so selfish. Also, she shouldn’t have been wearing that short skirt if she didn’t want to be pinched.

I don’t know about US law but in Canada you can be convicted of sexual assault of a minor if they are above the age of consent (sixteen) but under eighteen, if the perpetrator was in a position of trust with respect to the victim. Regardless of “bishop” Long’s criminal responsibility he’s a hypocritical x-tian who deserves to be brought down for his abominable homophobia.

He was selling a product. He tailored that product to meet the demands of his buyers. There is plenty of culpability to go around here. It’s not like any of those that followed “Bishop” Eddie Long couldn’t have figured out where their tithes were going.

Yes, falling for the bait/bribe makes you a hypocrite…right. That’s generally the logic of an abuser, FYI.

Slouching Towards Kampala: Uganda’s Deadly Embrace of Hate

When we first reported on three American anti-gay activists traveling to Kampala for a three-day conference, we had no idea that it would be the first report of a long string of events leading to a proposal to institute the death penalty for LGBT people. This report will be updated continuously as events continue to unfold. Check here for the latest updates.

Paul Cameron’s World

In 2005, the Southern Poverty Law Center wrote that “[Paul] Cameron’s ‘science’ echoes Nazi Germany.” What the SPLC didn”t know was Cameron doesn’t just “echo” Nazi Germany. He quoted extensively from one of the Final Solution’s architects. This puts his fascination with quarantines, mandatory tattoos, and extermination being a “plausible idea” in a whole new and deeply disturbing light.
